Thread: Question for Talthazar...

Instead of posting all these "bugs" and "state of profession" posts, do you as our correspondent have the ability to ask devs when any fixes are going in?We're all pretty much on the same page about what the major issues are for BE's, I think what we're all waiting for is when anything's going to be done about it.

I love the list of changes, but this patch to patch waiting is more a pain than a pleasure. If the fixes won't go in until 2 or 3 patches down the line, that's fine but don't tease by making the changes sound like they're done and working when they might not even on the TC.

Please be persistent, and stay on the devs for a definitive answer.

Thank you, and we all do appreciate your hard work, since we know what NOT having a correspondent is like..

The correspondants don't get to tell us anything that goes on in the correspondent-only forum until SOE gives them permission. It's not Talthazar's fault that he's been tight-lipped on the "when" question. He told us he'd ask, and I for one assume he has, and he hasn't told us anything else because he doesn't know anything else. Or if he does know something else, they haven't given him permission to tell us - most likely because it's either (a) unpleasant, or (b) a wild-assed guess. He could decide to tell us anyway, but that kind of behavior would jeopardize the entire correspondant program, not to mention getting him removed as our correspondant and throwing us back into chaos.

He's probably not even allowed to say something like "I keep asking when and JesseA keeps deleting my posts."

And he knows how much we hate it when people come in here and try to blow sunshine up our test tubes.

Don't forget, Tal is one of us. If he could tell us he would. He would have to be pretty dumb not to know that that is our number one question. And I've seen no real evidence of him being dumb, so far, but we're all watching....just joking.

My apologies because I didn't know Tal had to be so tight-lipped.

This only discourages me even more then. If he can ask and ask and ask without getting an answer how is it really any different from any of us asking, only that they just go to one person. I guess the definition of a correspondent is to only be a middle-(wo)man of information, but I was hoping it'd come from the other end a bit more than us just funneling everything to Tal to tell the devs.

I'm also not getting why we have so many "problems with BE" posts. If the big question is when, why do we even bother posting more bugs until our original concerns get fixed. Kinda pointless to me.

I hope for all of our sakes that Talthazar does ask everyday, even if the posts do get deleted, cause hopefully they'll fix what's broken just to shut us up.

And that's another thing, do we need everything together in one big patch? Can't we fix experimentation before throwing in all the new clones? I find it hard to believe all the new changes to BE are dependent upon each other.

Lastly, that BE fix on the patch notes todaylooked pretty small, and I had a hard time getting around the wording.

Thanks.

Insomnia,

So basically you're saying that the devs only have to stonewall one person (our correspondent) and he has to stonewall the rest of us due to an NDA. That's a pretty crappy position to be in. It basically forces him to give us the same kind of half answers (or no answers) that we get from other official sources even if he doesn't want to. You couldn't pay me enough to take that job.

Haggis,

That's more or less it ina nutshell. It's the correspondants' job to take issues from their players, present them to the developers in sound-bite form, discuss possible solutions, and seek our input as needed. The reason they have a private forum where the rest of us can't even read the posts is because they want to kick ideas around without telling us what they are. They sometimes throw the correspondant a bone and let him be the one to post new information, but they could just as easily post it themselves.

You're right - it's not a job I want or one that I'd be any good at. Thank you, Talthazar, for doing this for us. I know you're frustrated, probably even more so than we are.

I do wish I had an answer for you guys, but I don't yet. I have discussed it with Keldarin and he assures me that he's working on the system. I really have no reason to doubt that. Many of you have pointed out that it's a huge undertaking.

I know the change has been slow, let's face it, after the rocky start fo SWG, the first couple months were spent just fixing the major instabilities with the servers and databases. Now we have a game that stays running and where items don't frequently go poof among other things. TH is now working on making the game fun and that means fixing professions. He's taken everyone's top 5 issues and he's working to get everyone responses in the next few days. I know the changes seem painfully slow, but they are coming.

would it be a violation of the NDA if you gave us the answer in puzzle form? like:

The new cloning system will be implemented in {x:y+z/sin(x)<f(pi, phi) where f(x, y) is all possible undefined outcomes of tan(x)/arctan(y) within -4<x<4 radians} days.

btw, if you know the answer to that, I'm not worthy.
