Thread: What determin the final CL of clones?
Im a new master BE on Bria, and Im studying the cloning system. Ive been quite lucky with my special attacks, at least the 2nd special. I place the 2nd special I want in the psychological slot, and have gotten 100% success so far. Also, if I place rancor dna with light armor and fortitude over 500 in the 1,2 and 5th slot, I have no problem getting light armor to stick.
But yesterday I tried making someone a =<cl10 pet to help with training combat. I started with 4 samples of trash (a snake mob with mild poison) and 1 youth rancor in the mind slot. Experimented a LITTLE bit, and got a cl 14 dewback.
Sampled it to get 2nd gen dna. Placed these in 1,2,5 and 1st gen snake dna in 3 and 4. I dont rememeber exactly. The result after experimenting 1 point in physique, was cl 11.......
After an hour or more of trying, ending up with 4th generation dna and 1 crit fail (scream, but luckily I had a surplus of 4th gen dna), I got a cl 8 Krahbu. 1k health, 400 action 600 mind.
Can someone please explain to me how to determin CL? I hear people say that what makes a BE stand out from wild taming is our ability to determin CL... Well. Untill now, CL seems to be dependant on luck. And that isnt very scientific, is it?
Could someone please explain to me what happens with CL when using 2nd gen dna from same critter, compared to the 1st gen dna? Is the CL reduced by 50%? 30%? And are there any stats especially important to CL?
And how do YOU make a certain levelclone for a customer? I couldnt make a precise level clone for the life of me... ![]()
Got to disagree with Tal on this one, its true that when the CL gets to 30+ then the HAM becomes increasingly less relevant, but at lower levels it makes a huge difference.

I didn't say that, i said the amount of resistances increases along with the HAM.
If you said that every percentage of a resistances for kinetic and energy was worth +3 points, acid was worth +2 and everything else is +1. Then if you add up the resistances for critters then you'll see a very proportional curve between the CL ratings, the HAM and the amount of protection a mob has. Yes it's true that from CL30-50 you see the maximum HAMs only increase from around 10k to 12k however the same can be said for the damage the critters cause which also slows until it hits around CL70. But on average it's very fair to say that the more resistances a mob has the more HAM they have as well which is why it doesn't contribute much to the CL if anything at all.

What happens to dna (b)that is sampled from a clone (a)? Is b= a/2?
What are the factors you depend upon to get an EXACT CL? Lets sayCL 28 and 10?
I read in another thread that hardiness, intelligence and dexterity around 300 total (ie. 100/100/100) will normally make a CL 10 clone. Is this correct? If this is so, then it is the three HAM bars that the CL relies upon?
Is there a good compliation of information on this subject of dna, templates and end CL result?

I think you'll find that part of the whole "bugged pet" issue was the CL calculationwas out of whack. The "fix" they brought in still had the CL calculation out of whack and it wont actually be fixed until the next publish.
Having said that, I think it's probably posible to make a low CL pet with high health (not HAM, just health) and kin resist around 20 if you gut the rest of it (no "to hit", damage, speed or other resists). It'd be a pretty limited function pet though...
But what exactly happens to the dna when sapling from a clone, making the so-called 2nd generation dna?
If you get 5 same quality samples and make a template, what stats and CL would that creature have unexperimented compared to the donor?

This may be true for higher level creatures but is not for lower level. I haven't ben able to get a CL10 criter wth 2K ham in all categories since the "hotfix". I have gotten some with 20% resists with about 1700 HAM and some with 10% resists at 1900 HAM. For low level critters HAM is more important to CL than resists.
lots of factors are invovled, i know that, but yesterday, i got 5 Fambaa DNA samples, made a template, and a dewback out of it, it was CL 11, 4.5k HAm forgot the resists, but its damage was some where around 150-190
all the samples were average quality and the template was below average.
like tal-N said, i agree with that, it makes alot of sence, i think the resists on mine were 25 ken 25 energy 35 cold 35 heat (special protect) 4% restraint and blast for effeciveness had no armor

I'm not talking about what is more important, I'm referring to how the CLs are worked out. As for the 4k HAM CL11 critter.. well.. we do get discounts on the actual CL ratings. CL11 with 4k of HAM sounds a bit odd, however it sounds about right for a CL15 or CL16 one doesn't it. Because of the rapid increase to the HAMs at the lower levels you'll find that bio-engineered non-ch pets will actually have stats around equal to the old CL15 ones. That is why in my opinion the level was lowered, because they knew bio-pets have this advantage. Can you imagine the problems if they had left it as CL15, people would be going around with non-ch pets equal to something around CL20 meaning you'd have some pretty tasty tanks with around 5000 to 6000 HAM causing around 250 damage and some solid resistances.
I have only gotten more confused by the replies to my question... I dont concider myself an ass either, so perhaps it is still possible to explain what you are saying in a more incomplicated way?
The FAQs and walkthroughs Ive read so far have not answered the question about final CL of clone as far as I can see - all theyve said is that its complicated. Thats not an answer.

What your missing is this. We really dont truly know. There has been no documentation from the devs on any aspect of what we do. From what they consider a "true" CL10 to be. To how the CL system works when we create clones. What you are reading here are many different opinions of how we think it works. Tal has done more research then almost any user short of the Devs themselves. So i typically take what he says as being a very good guess at the truth.
Unfortunatly right now its trial and error to find out. And 2nd generation clones keep the special attacks and protections of the 1st gen. But they lose HAM stats and slow down their to-hit speeds at the same time. This in-turn lowers their CL level. The idea being that we can then just experiment what we lost back into the generic template.
