Thread: Mutant rancors and concel from a Master Ranger
Just want to share this to all the fellow BE's
I hired a master ranger hoping to use his skill to keep my axx alive on mutants. We got togehter and departed, found 2 nice nests near each other and started from there. For about 2 hours, mutants broke the concel 95% of the time (yes, I am not even a ranger myself but MR applied his on me when it broke). I used 65M stay, 25M stay method to approch the critters, still not of much help. I did my sampling during that 5% success in getting near them, but the sampling success rate is way too low, ofthose 5% I am able to sample them, 95% failed. I end up with only 3 samples over about 2 hours, finally I said 'forget this' and left...gosh, I have better luck in sampling Anache queens and widow and BMBs...tho they are not level 70 but gosh...looks like hiring a MR is not much of a use to me other than finding the nests. Anyone had the similar situation? or the Concel kit's quality make a difference?
It's been a while since I gave up ranger, but here's my take on it:
Conceal kit quality makes no difference...the only experimentation on them is for quantity. The usefulness of /maskscent and /conceal has fluctuated many times with various patches....they've gone from making a ranger invisible to creatures to being worthless and everywhere in between as the devs have continually changed their effectiveness.
The good news for you is that the Devs have stated recently that now they intend to improve conceal to make the ranger practicallyinvisible to creatures (but that it will no longer be effective vs NPC's).
The bad news is that rangers got some attentionway back in August/September, and thatimprovements/fixes to conceal and other ranger abilities are not going to happen for a long time, since there are other professions (like BE) that truly needed more attention. As I understand it, DE's and Chefs are next, then smuggler, then who knows...
So I wouldn't hold my breath on /conceal being useful for a while...it seems to depend on the whims of the Devs whether the latest patch improves or nerfs/maskscent and/conceal, andit seems certain that majorfixes to ranger (like good traps or camps that do something useful) are a long time in coming.
Jamga (former master ranger)
From what i can gather conceal works best on humanoids (NPC) while maskscent works better for animals. I'd personally drop the rangers wayfaring skills if it wasn't for the fact the movement bonus to crawling is really valuable when you want to approach Mutant Rancor using maskscent. It only breaks around 1/4 times then at the very most.
