Thread: If I sample it, will you come?

Greetings, mad scientists!

I'm a Rifleman/Ranger/Medic currently considering some new profession combinations to vary up my gameplay a bit. My question for you all is this:

If someone such as myself were to go 0040 in Bio-Engineer for the purpose of sampling high quality DNA and then selling it to "real" BEs, would you/they likely be interested in buying it? I dabbled in BE myself a bit during the first couple of months after launch, prior to deactivating my account for six months, but I never got far enough into it to get a clear sense of whether the BE community considers acquiring DNA an exciting part of the profession or a pain in the tookus (plus the question hadn't occurred to me at the time). At this point I'm not so much interested in establishing specific relationships with BEs on my server as finding out whether this is a viable business idea in general, before I go working my way up the DNA tree.

Assume that, if I were on your server/planet,I would offer DNA for sale to you on your vendors.

Would you buy any in the first place?

What kinds/quality would you want to buy?

How much would you be willing to pay? (per unit, per stat, whatever criteria) (I'd want to recoup travel & death costs, plus make some profit)

Would a 0040 BE have adequate sampling skill to acquire the DNAs you like? (as a 4040 ranger I can /conceal on any planet but Dathomir)

How many DNAs offered for sale at any one time would be ideal?

Thanks for your input!

the problem with this is you can't sample the highest creatures (ie. bark mite burrower queen, mutant rancor)

and you won't get any very high quality dna as that's only available to master

but you can still get high quality dna, and from a great number of useful creatures

if you wanted to make money though, i'd bank on getting meat

A great deal of fun I have with BE stems from the fact that I enjoy the thrill when sampling: Will I be aggro'ed? Will I get that VHQ sample that I need to complete this super-pet with those killer-specials? Chances are that you won't have just *the* DNA I need at this very moment anyway...

Oaceen has a point: Better sell us the meat - I never seem to have enough of high quality stuff.
