Hello everyone!

Since the Patch 13, i've noticed some rather exciting changes happen to me when sampling DNA. Specifically i noticed that the only times i experienced DNA sampling failures (I went IMB DNA hunting last friday night) were when my mask scent wore off and i had not had the chance to reapply it. I experienced this 2 times, out of a total of 34 sampling attempts where the creature did not fly off out of range and recieved a total of 32 samples. I noted carefully that the only times I experienced one of these failures was when my mask scent wore off. I am still having creatures aggro me after some sampling attempts.
I'm curious if anyone else had noticed this trend as well. Moreover, i recieved similar results sampling a couple of mereks i found. In that case, i only recieved a failure when my inventory was full(at which point i deleted some unneeded items).

So the two questions that i'd like to pose to the community:
1) did anyone have this kind of success on a regular basis BEFORE the patch? ( i know i didn't)
2) Has anyone experienced a similar situation after the patch?

Personally, i have a slight hunch that this may be tied somehow loosely to the Crit Failure code and therefore when the devs took out/altered crit failures something in the code may have had an effect on dna sampling.

nonetheless, i was extremely happy to get so many samples of IMB in such a short amount of time.

I got 3 successful samples in a row off a mutant rancor last night.... that was unheard of prepatchas far as I know

Hmmm now u come to mention it...I went out with a smuggler friend a few nights ago (just after patch) and went throuigh 3-4 lair to get IMB samples...I never failed once on any (Mask Scent din't Break) and I got more samples than I was expecting...2VHQ/1HQ/1AA off the first IMB. I just thought I was having a lucky day, and it kept on like this. I got 18 samples, of which most were VHQ with some HQ...I think 2 were AA.

I was surprised at the fact it didn't fail, and the fact I got so many samples from so few critters...lets just say I was pleasantly surprised

Perhaps it is just random.

Pre patch I once managed 3 samples off a MR, and 5 off an IMB.

Keep those sample data coming!

Yesterday I failed 5(!) times in a row on the most fearsome creature imaginable: a huurton pup. Mask Scent was on. And when I finally did get samples, they were above average.

Now maybe I was just having a run of bad luck (it happens), but this is a little rediculous.

Huurton Pup don't count, they aggro on me almost as much as MR do.

What do you mean? They shouldn't be aggroing you at all, unless you start poking them. And I wasn't experiencing aggros on sampling failures, I was just experiencing sampling failures.

My point was that for their extremely low level and lack of natural aggression, HP aggro on me while sample almost as much as a MR. I also have more failures on them than I do on critters 25 times their level. HP isn't the best critter to use as a baseline. Try gnort, nightspider or other non-HP yard-trash

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

I'm really not bragging here, just sharing my relative data. My before patch and after patch sampling hasn't really changed at all. Before the patch I was getting numbers like you are seeing on IMB's. I did a hunt not too long ago for them, and I don't remember an IMB breaking my mask scent at any time after I de-agro from hitting it's liar. I also remember my fail sampling rate was pretty low, but I don't think I got more than 5 samples off any one IMB.

As for failing on sampling, it seems my toon is blessed with an unnaturally low fail rate. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 10% for anything under CL60. Even Huurton pups and the dreaded kreetles fall into this range. They hardly ever agro on me.

I've gotten 4 in a row off an MR with relatively low stats. I've also failed 15 times in a row. Not a record, but it lends some proof that my MR sampling success is random.

Yea, I think the falicy is that everytime someone has a run of exceptional luck (good or bad), it is immediately attributed to the most recent patch. Since after every patch people have claimed that their mask scent/sampling/experimenting has gotten worse (this thread is a welcome exception to that trend), I'm surprised that we have any chance at all of hiding/sampling/experimenting since apparently it's gotten worse with every patch for the last year-and-a-half

I've gone on a couple sampling marathons since this last patch, and have had some runs where I was cursing up a blue storm, and other times when I was thanking my lucky stars, and I've the same goes for mask scent and experimentation. Nothing to see here... move along.

I've had days where I couldn't get 2 samples from a HP without them going aggro and days where I've gotten 5-10 (first one died, but there was a second one close) samples from a MR before he goes aggro.
