i was going to go for BE through the scout hunting branch, only to find you can't do it cos it's broke. Standing infront of a trainer with hunting IV and 10k medical crafting xp and still getting told by the guy, "you need either hunting IV or organic chemistray IV".
Ok so i'll go around, get novice then drop medic, also not happening. I just wanted to know, has this happened to anyone else? and has anyone been able to get BE through the scout branch and if so when? I just want to know if it has been bugged from the beginning or has it happened due to a patch?

You need BOTH Hunting 4 and Organic Chemistry 4, it's always worked that way.

You can't drop a prereq. You must have, and keep, medical crafting and scout hunting in order to become a bio-engineer. It isn't like merchant where, once you've set up a vendor and paid for global advertising, you can drop the skill and still have an globally advertised vendor.

Yes it is alot of skillpoints. However, the medical crafting line is needed so we can craft the medical subcomponents for petstims (not all of us are chefs). We need creature knowledge so we can examine a creature for resists, level, armor, and so on. These are reasonable prereq's in my honest opinion. Now, I do know alot of chef/BE combos out there because the normal run-of-the-mill chef feels BE is a charity profession and that tissues, at any cost, are simply too expensive (a 99.5% profit isn't enough). That, we are the greedy ones. Anyway, I won't leave off on a tissy fit. If BE is still something you don't want to do, I'm sure you'll find a struggling BE on your server who'd be more than happy to make a business deal with you.

BE is a hybrid profession, see Smuggler, Commando, BH,and they all take a lot a lot of skill points.

Not always, I believe that it originally required the engineering tree of artisan - although some of the older members will have to confirm that for me.

No, first time I joined BE crew on 08.2003 and it already was Org.chem 4 + Hunting 4 to go...
