Thread: Interesting points about making non-ch pets

Well i was tinkering around with this tonight, got some mixed results but was mainly aiming for making nice CL10 clones within 1st or 2nd generations. The results were actually quite nice but the key seems to be that you really want to avoid having resists over 10% and if you want the HAM to be around 2000/1000/1000 you need to ensure the resists are low for the most part plus you need to ensure either kinetic or energy has a vulnerability for it.

The other secret? Well most folks know this but try to ensure that all of the stats are under 100. If you do get the power stat below around 50 then you can actually raise the health hardiness to around 150-160 without the CL rising too high but it's a very careful balancing act. So the need is to avoid experimenting too much, i generally only raise the pyschique by around 2 points at the most unless the stats are around 3% at which point each point of experimentation raises the stats by very very small increments which is what you want.

On an issue of if resists are really valuable at this low level lets just do the math:

  • 1500 health + 15% kinetic = 1725 damage

now of course to get the resists this high as well as the health pool you generally have ot really lose out on the other pools. Ideally you don't want action or mind less than 50% of what the health pool is otherwise you pet could fall quickly from a mob which just accidently hits the action bar a too more than usual. It is possible to have 2000 health with that 15% of course but thats just an extra 300 points. PLus to pull that odd you'd need a alot of inbreeding.

The interesting thing is that if you try to avoid resistances at all you can end up with that nice 2000 / 1000 /1000 or better which is actually affording you a tougher pet than one withresists.

I managed to make 3 non-CH pets yesterday...1.5kish health and mind, between 700-800 action?!? and 7% kinetic and energy...the damage is pitiful as well...not sure where to take it from here, or even if I should try...

As posted elsewhere in this forum, I succeeded Friday night in creating a dewback CL10 that is 2006 Health, 2500 Action, 1800 mind and 29% kinetic. The damage is 30-40 (who cares it's a meatshield) and it's got a ranged attack(I would prefer that it didn't) and knockdown special 2. This pet also has 11% restraint resist (don't know how that got in there actually).

At this point, I believe I can replicate this result at will. I read everything on the boards and then took detailed notes. I can almost predict by looking at a DNA strand whether or not a pet made with that DNA will be at or below the magic CL10. Heh.

Yesterday, I spent a lot of time trying to create a CL10 pet with energy and kinetic resists. I succeeded after quite a bit of experimentation and created a pet with 46% kinetic and 39% energy resists but only about 1000/800/800 ham. To me, a pet with 1k HAM even with these resists is useless. Even if you buff it every time you call it (action and health master doctor D's) you're looking at 2k-3.5k and you won't be able to heal it fast enough to keep it alive once you get a few thousand meters outside town on a starter planet.

I can second your observation strongly that having more than one resist drastically affects the CL calculation. I have a lotof data to validate this. After a LOT of experimentation I have given up creating a non-CH pet with more than one. I haven't stepped back and attempted to backfill data into the CH calculation, but I can affirm what others have posted - namely that HAM, damage, and resists are the key indicators (armor being a huge one but that's irrelevant for my project) and that specials don't seem to matter. Multiple resists make a huge difference in the CL at low levels.

Good luck and happy cloning.

As a follow up, I created a carrion spat CL8:

624/534/552 HAM

3% resistant to all damage types

damage 30-40

Dizzy/Stun

No ranged.

Without the resists this pet would be like CL4.

Since it tends to be tough to get a CL10 critter with 1000+ health when you have around 15% for kinetic and energy that might mean we're allowed a quota of around50 points of resists. So there's the possibility for some nice secondry resists as long as you leave kinetic and energy low. Indeed someone made one with 3% to all which is a total of 39 points. In the end though as I said its probably better for combat potential to leave resists out at all, I'll have to see if I can find some species which have no resists but are a higher CL than10 to help bring things down towards what we need.
