Thread: Changes to BE I wold love to see

The BE seems so.. limited atm. Take away the bugs and playability issues and i believe BE's still fall extremely lacking. Why can we only make creatures? Why are we limited to certain creatures?

I would love to see BE creations based more off of what we sample. Add an extra DNA field to teh schematic that denotes WHAT we are making. I sample DNA from a peko. Then put thatdna sample in the crafting tool with the other 5 stat DNA... and Poof out pops a Peko! To make rancors that would require me to get at least one sample from a rancor.

The second change that would define true Bio's would be.. Drum roll.. Make non creatures. I would love to Clone a human. Treat him just like the faction npcs that you can get. give him weapons, armor, stims.. This would make the roll of BE's very important and diverse. I would love to have a clone of a medic follow me around to heal in a pinch.

Sampling seems strange that it uses mind - causes us to look at our shoe strings and basically after 3 attempts I have to sit down for a few minutes. But, if there are a few babies around I can repeatily attempt to tame without any lose of HAM. Actually thats what I do to recover from sampling.

Summary: I think this game is still immature but I knew this on day one when I logged in. I think its going to be a great game in a few months. Please better define the roll that BioEngineers are to play in this game. Like many others,BE's seems like an huge afterthought and no clear roll to play is the greater economy call SWG. And, don't get me started on teh economy

Thanks for the distractions from real life and yes.. I know this is only a game!

"To make rancors that would require me to get at least one sample from a rancor."

Definatly not a good idea IMO. This would make mask scent in the high ranger levels a neccesity just to be a BE. I know of no other class in which it is required that you be another class just to be the class you want to be.

Though I definatly think we should be able to make every creature in the game. I'm sure theyll add more and more slowly but surely. But first they need to fix the class.

Also, what needs to be done is our pets must have a DEFINITIVE advantage over wild pets. Except for failuresand the occasional bad luck during assembly/experimentation, anything a BE makes should be superior to its wild counterpart. Otherwise, we are the gimp CH with 10 times the work and cost.

I think it would be interesting (and profitable) if BE's were able to make special 'injection stims' that pet owners could use on their pets to temporarily increase certain HAM stats (much like spice). For balance, use of these special stims could cause a loss of 1 vitality point, etc.

Any thoughts?

sorry for the double reply, but another variation on my previous idea would be for us to be able to provide special 'DNA modifier pills' (or whatever) that could actually increase the damage and/or defense ratings of a pet. The balance to this would be an slightly accelerated loss to pet vitality over time. This would be very similar to the smuggler's ability to slice weapons; except we would be slicing pets

well, if a particular BE can make the scent neutralization cloth (and if it works) this is kind of moot. If that cloth really does neutralize scent, and it can be put in all clothes, then i don't think you'd need maskscent at all. Maybe its broken, but I hope not, and i also hope that 'neutralization' means neutralization. sure would be handy.

i don't dislike the idea of getting a rancor sample to build a rancor, if this cloth works as its name implies. i think Bio-Engineers should be able to build any creature in the game this way, and there should be creatures from planets that aren't in the game that we should be able to make. These obviously could not be tamed in the wild by creature handlers. Maybe BE mission terminals that give missions looking for a specific animal to be built, that can give you a dna sample reward for a creature that simply cannot be gotten any other way... Keeps them relatively rare that way.

Additional thoughts: (I am a novice BH and a novice BE)
1) All animals currently in the game should have babies for the CH folks.
2) BEs should not be able to make all animals that CHs can tame, but most of them.
3) CHs should have to go to BEs for animals that cannot be found in the wild.

I would like too see more of an interdependency between CH and BE, especially since CH folks should be required to go to a BE for certain animals. There should be animals that only BEs can deliver, and animals that only CHs can deliver. there should be A LOT of animals that both can deliver, to cater to the CHs that like to tame in the wild and those that don't, and there should be very few animals that neither can use. These pets that no one can use/tame/build should be made to be among the highest quality dna sources in the game. They should have the strongest noses, and the most violent tempers in the game. like a creature with nightsister senses.

Paramount of these things to me are the animals that can be made but cannot be tamed in the wild, no matter what. Pets that we can make, and sell to creature handlers, but that they cannot get themselves. This would put a little bit of juice into BEs position in the game and would make it a lot more fun for both CHs and BEs i think, especially if there are animals that only CHs can get, and can only give to each other.

I would like to see the icon of a DNA sample changed to look like a spinning DNA strand.

I know this doesnt address any problems but would be nice instead of a atari cartrige spinning

Can you have a medic as a faction pet?

Anyway, I don't see how cloning a mercenary would be any more unbalancing than cloning an animal. Except that an animal requires usage stats. And factions pets must be earned instead of bought, though it might compare with buying a probot. Though I think with the difficulty in cloning a humanoid there should be a lot faster decay on them. Not unreasonable, but probably not high priority either considering the issues involved.
