Thread: Part time CH/BE? Worth my time?
This maybe a stupid question...but..
Untill the last few days I've been planing to do Master Swordsman/Master CH, butI recentlydecided to dump some of my CH points into BE. So after Master Swordsman, theres some 74 points left for the two professions.
Is it worth my time to split the two, understanding neither would have enough for master? Has anyone done this, what can you make/control with like +26 creature lvl and the first 2 and a half rows of BE? Or should go master BE with only the novice CH box.
Thoughts appreaciated
Personally, I feel that BE is an "all or nothing" profession. Youshould strive for master, or don't bother at all. The main reason is that to make the best quality pets (and derive income from it) you need to invest the points to at least 4/0/4/4.
Clone Engineering IV gets you all skins save the ones reserved for Master, and while we can talk the non BE population to death about how the different skins don't make too much of a difference, it still always boils down to KIMO, KIMO, KIMO! And remember, Cloning IV doesn't even give you kimogilas as a skin.
DNA Sampling IV allows you access to High Quality samples. If you want the best pets, it's not just about getting DNA from the best creatures, your quality samples need to be of good quality as well. As stated all over our profession boards, meat and floral quality no longer influence the stats of the creatures, it's now the quality of the samples that do.
Engineering Techniques IV gives you more experimentation points, but most of all, increases your chances of success in experimenting. This goes hand in hand with your sampling, if you want to further raise the stats of your creation, and possibly get the prized Armor Rating to stick to your creation, if the initial assembly doesn't produce it.
I've left Tissue Engineering out, but without this, you have access only to pet stimpack A, which won't do much healing on a higher level creature (assuming you're making yourself pets to use if you have some CH). And if you choose to have some tissue enhanced clothing (the good stuff) you may have to pay a much higher price for said clothing. I've found that if you can supply the tissue yourself to the tailor (with maybe an extra or two for her own use), you won't necessarily have to pay as much as someone wanting to buy that anti-bleed shirt.
Knowing all this, however, you still need to also look at how you intend to play the game as a Master Swordsman/CH/BE. By surrendering CH levels, you lose the ability to use the higher CL pets and may not be able to hunt the way you're used to now. Remember that BEs are a non-artisan crafting class. From what I see (I don't know if you've tried an artisan class), you're more used to a combat profession, so are you willing to go through the (at many times boring) process it takes to level in a crafting class?
Finally, BE and CH are very complementary classes, but if one is to be Master and the other "dabbled in," I would have to go with BE. That way, you can easily make yourself the best pets for whatever your CL limit is, although I would still have to say that Master BE with only the Novice CH box would be a waste, you might as well master BE and use the points for the novice CH box elsewhere for that combination. In your example about having the first two and a half rows of BE, there's still a lot of stuff you can make, and you should be able to come up with a CL 26 creature that you can use (provided you sample creatures in and around that CL), but as I mentioned above, if your engineering and sampling levels aren't that high, you'll still have an inferior CL26 creature compared to someone who uses your exact formula, but having a higher sampling and engineering level than you.
