Hi guys & gals,

I brought this up on another thread, but I wanted to post it here too.

BEs will be able to MAKE mounts.

The question is... make them for whom?

Well, we all knew that CHs would have to be the trainersalready, so what's the big deal? I think that the DEVs believe that we'll be able to sell creature deeds to all players who can then take them to a CH to get them trained. This is not the case. Someone just confirmed on the TC forum that the pets have to be 60% grown before they can be trained as a mount. That means that the CH will have to tame it and wait 3-4 days before making it a mount.

I seriously doubt that non-CHs will buy mount deeds from BEs that can't be instantly trained. They will cut us out of the loop and go straight to the CH.

This means that our predominant market is only going to be as follows. (I'm guessing at the numbers, so I'll try to be conservative.)

8.66% of the player base has novice CH.

2% - Probably 2% of the player base will know CH up to Empathy IV. Of those mount makers, half will know enough BE to make their own deeds.

Leaving...

1% - Our pet deed market will most likely be around 1% of the player population.

Does this concern anybody else? I'd like to see ANY crafter profession try to get by only selling to 1% of the other players.

maybe its just me, but didnt they change the system so sub 15 pets could be traded and tamed (from deed form) by everyone? I could be wrong and im unable to test it myself since im BE/CH.. but if everyone can tame / transfer a non-ch be pet, then you coudl sell someone the deed, they could tame it and once its grown, transfer it to the CH for training

Yes, you can tame from the deed, and transfer nonCH creatures, with no CH skills. And the 60% requirement will work in our favor. Someone who tames from the deed and raises the animal should be able to ask for a taming discount because the most important thing for a CH is data space. Why sell only one mount in the course of several days when they could potentially train dozens? We just need to advertise properly so that this method becomes common knowledge.

As a CH, I have to agree that this works in the BE's favor. It makes sense for me to buy a bunch of mount pet deeds, hold them in my inventory, tame and train as needed and resell to others as mounts. All this because of my VERY limited datapad space and I DO NOT want toand datapad space.

So, BE's please get ready to stock your vendors with these pets because I will be buying. BTW, in anticipation of being able to tame and train a rancor, I bought one from a BE's vendor before she moved. It's great knowing I can put him in storage for awhile until I get to the right level.

CoenNoth,

You'll buy from BEs which is great, but how much will you buy? Because of the 60% rule, you'll only be able to turn your inventory roughly once every 3.5 days. So, a CH which devotes 6 datapad slots to mount making will only be able to make 12 per week.A single BE can make more deeds than that in an hour. There's going to be too much supply and not enough demand.

Now, if non-CHs can tame their own deeds and hold onto them until they're ready as some of you have mentioned above it'll help.

I still have doubts about the viability of the market, but I guess we'll see.

Who knows... The whole 60% rule might open up new markets. Maybe people can rent out their datapad space to grow pets for CH trainers to increase their supply.

Benechi... get off this path. Most of the pets will be grown by the end user. Master CH's are not going to go out and tame CL 10 anything. Nor will they allow them to linger in their data pad.

Novice CH could try to penetrate this market, but what we found out before, if we have a sellable product we will sell the hell out of it.

Before, we had a Kamurra, 2600 ham competing with a Cowardly Gurreck at 3300 ham and Mountain Krevols and Rock Beatles at 2200 ham but with armor and I sold dozens of them even though many people thought they looked stupid.

I've got a BE and a CH. If things work like I think they do, I should be able to create the creature, tame it, sell it to the customer, and then have them bring it back when it reaches 60% for me to train the mount command. Basically incorporate the future mount training into the initial price, if they decide to have someone else teach it the mount command later that's fine, otherwise the come back to me and I don't charge any extra to teach it myself.

Assuming the system works like I think it does and this will work, CH's without a BE could do similar. Purchase a bunch of untamed BE pets, and then tame/sell at purchase time and provide the mount command at no extra cost when the customer brings them back at the proper age.

From what I understand from Test, the only CL10 or lower wild mount is the Carrion Spat. There are BE craftable CL10 or lower versions of all 6 mounts (or there will be).

So if people what anything other than a Spat, they've got to get the animal from a BE, then have a CH tame/train it.

Pulling this one out of the trash heap. Don't agree with the original poster, but the thread as a whole fosters good discussion.
