Thread: OK.. maybe a silly Question. CL35 w/60% Kin vs CL70 w/60% kin??

Why would a CH want a CL70 pet instead of a CL35 pet if the stats are similar? Well.. I have an 11k HAM CL35 Gurreck I made. Why would I need to make a CL70?

Wouldn't two CL35 Gurrecks with Strong Poison/Stun, Light Armor and 60% kinetic whip a CL70 with, say 15k HAM?

Or?

Just curious why people would want a single large CL70?

who said they would prefer a CL70 with the same stats ? give me names

of course, a CL35 would do it really good

I have filled up my datapad with BE-made creatures and I love them all.

I have 1 CL65 BE-pet... the difference with the good CL35 is about 13K HAM in all 3 pools, better damage, better overall resistance.

I would use it if the 2 CL35 pets are out of health

Prestige. Creature Type (no CL 35 Kimos). Resists to other types of damage. Style.

It is pretty well recognized that in PvE, a pair of CL 35 pets can do much more and can bring more damage, specials and health to the battle than a single CL 70. In PvP, the resist profile of a CL 70 might provide an edge.

Also, many CH players are not so skilled in using the pets, and don't realize the crowd control possibilities of a second pet, and al apalling number of them handicap themselves with single-letter commands, which eliminates using /tellpet for pet-pulling, or directing different pets to attack at different times, or even in some cases, to select a special appropriate to the foe.

A carefully crafted team of CL 35's can bring over 22-24K of health, which with the armor and 60% kinetic resist figured in, is vastly above the 13-13.5 that many of the strongest CL 70's have. Strong Disease/Strong Poison specials for their "DoT" effect on the "pet-parked" mob can reduce the battle required on the second opponent by half; coupled with a bleed from a ranged weapon user in the group it can kill the second mob while the group takes down the first, using the stun and intimidate from the pet on the "primary" mob to reduce its damage output towards the players attacking it.

Since Triplets can be made by a skilled BE with 9.5 -10K+ health, armor and 60% kinetic, even at a reduced damage output these can, as a team, overwhelm a much higher level opponent, and they can be "cycled" against a difficult mob with someone befriended to them to call and heal them as needed and return them to the battle, making for an almost endless pool of health to put against any high-level opponent.

The requirement here, however, is that the CH and his groupmates be skilled in the use of the pets and coordinate their effort. Given the state of most groups I have seen in SWG (10 players soloing in the same general direction), it may be easier for the CH to use one massive pet, and concentrate on that creature, rather than try to manage the team of pets and the players that are often their own worst enemies in a situation that good cooperation and tactics can render easy to overcome.

So, in answer, a single power-pet has its place, and can be used very effectively at a lower level of skill (not skill-box wise, but experience and control) than a team, but a team can be superior in many cases if it is used well.

well, that CL35 pet prolly does around 200 damage at to-hit 0.3 with speed 2.15

A CL70 would do 500 damage at to-hit .7 at speed 1.9

200*0.3/ 2.15= 30damage per second(doing it off the top of my head, disregarded the .15)

500*0.7/1.9 = 175 damage per second (not precise again)

a CL35 pet with high kinetic resists and a high HAM bar is a good PvE animal tank

a CL70 pet with appropriate stats is a good PvE all-round warrior, both tank and damage dealer.

Also, with pets having the knack to not do what you tell them to, it's not always that easy to switch tanking animals when one is low on health. Having a single animal that helps you take it down quicker can be a neat alternate solution to avoid that problem.

I'm at work so I don't have my pet stats down exactly.. but regarding the damage they can do...

I am getting 2nd generation pets at around CL34-38 with 9-11k HAM and they all do 360 Dmg or more. One cat does 410-420 dmg.

So a pair of these cats will still out-damage a CL70 pet with 500 Dmg.

Thanks for the replies.

And I'll be working on developing those triplets for my hunter char. Right now, he has a decent pair I think.

Stats are in no way similar between CL 70 and CL 35. The dps is much much higher on the CL 70's, and in general you get much better resists (as a whole).

I've never been a CH capable of wielding such pets, but from a BE perspective what I see is people coming to me requesting 1-2 CL 35 pets, getting those, being very happy with them, and then wanting a CL 70 in addition, perhaps as a curiousity, perhaps to use in certain situations. I'd imagine that if I made it all the way to master CH I'd want one (or maybe more, lol) in my datapad just to have. Kinda like how you when you already have your backpack full of guns but when you run by that weaponsmith shop you always gotta buy a couple more, lol.

Remember that your DPS is not simply based on the Damage figure. DPS is really (Damage/Speed) x to-hit, so the end result is MUCH more dependent on the to-hit than on the raw damage figure, and that is one of the things that increases the CL significatly.

If you are using pets as tanks, to absorb the damage that players cannot, the higher Health total of the team is essentially the deciding factor. If you are not supplimenting the pet's damage with a ranged weapon or other means, then the higher DPS of the CL 70 means a shorter fight and less overall damage/healing required. That will play into the choice of single high-level or team selection as well.

I have both a CH and a BE and I know the woes of makeing high lvl pets with everything that would want in a pet and not go over lvl 70 with it. I also know the woes of makeing that perfect lvl 33-38 pet and then makeing a perfect counter-part for it.

Perfect pet for me read: High HAM (over 10k for 35 and over 13k for 67-70) over 55 kin, over 50 energy, over 45 stun and still have as high damage as possible. Rest to me dosent matter till I mess with PVP(wich wont be till after combat rebalance but thats another story). This combo is not easy

The reason Im trying to make myself both a set of lvl 35ish pets and one lvl 67-70 pet is simply this; sometimes I dont feel like paying full atttention to what Im doing and have 2 pets out at the same time let alone my driod that I normally have out as well. Other times I do like the full group that I bring to a fight hehe. For me its all a matter of what mood Im in and why not try to have both if Im making it for myself hehehe.

Anyway, I can feel for those that try to make those high lvl pets they can be a real pain to do. The mutant rancor DNA is a horrible pain to get and you absolutly need it to make a pet over lvl 65 as far as I have seen in my experience. I also charge alot for a pet over lvl 65 and much much more for a pet closer to lvl 70 since there are times I can try for hours and only get a few mutant rancor DNA.

Just my 2 creds tho.

Cool. so the DPS would be the deciding factor.

My alt is a Master Rifleman and is training up in CH. He is 3/2/2/4 so far. So I should be able to test some of these things soon.

Last night, for grins, I took my two 3-day old gurrecks out to Dath. One is level 9 right now. The other is level 10. Both are around 2800 health right now. When grown, they will be level 34-35 with 9-11k ham. They have 47 and 52% Kinetic each and light armor.

I sent them onto a Bull Rancor and took it out easily.. of course, I'm spamming the rancor with SS2 with a sliced, powered-up T21 too. *grin*. The Kittens did very, very well. They had over half their HAM left but were both poisoned.

Store, call and feed. Play a few tricks and we did it again when the Bull Rancor respawned.

I can hardly wait to see what these kitties do when they grow up.

Last night, Slipstream and Damun sent them after a Giant Dune Kimo. They lasted approximately 3 minutes before getting incapped. Not bad for a couple of babies.
