I'm new and having lots of fun trying different things, I'm so low on skill tree that when i do second generation not sure what i'm really getting. What advantage are the generation thing for a BE.

If you have low sampling skills and low experimentation skills I wouldn't recommend re-sampling your own pets. You're just asking for trouble, and there's really no point in doing it.
There's really two different reasons to re-sample your own pets.
1) to lower CL while maintaining resists. If you create a pet, sample it, and use that dna to create another pet, in general the new one will be lower CL because every aspect of it that you don't experiment on, will drop, but the resists will stay intact (in general).
2) to "skew" the stats. So for example you start by sampling a creature with 1k health, action, mind, and 200 damage. you sample that, experiment on health as far as it will go, and a little bit on damage, and you come up with say 1.2k health, 600 action, and 600 mind, and 150 damage. Then you re-sample that, make a creature, and do the same thing, maybe now you have 1.2k health, 400 action, 400 mind, 100 damage.

Second generation and any beyond mainly are ways of "trimming" some stats while keeping others and resists. If you create a template that is higher level than you want the pet to be, but which has the resists and specials you need, often sampling the "deed" and combining the resulting samples, and then experimenting only on the stats you want to keep as high as possible will get you a creature with the main features you need at a lower level.
Second and successive generation samples also allow you to combine stats from more than 5 samples. Making pet A with Merek harvester and venom-filled arachne might get you a good kinetic resist and strong poisonand dizzy specials (just hypothetical here, I may not be right on the specials available). Making pet B with 3 samples from pet A and 2 from a Bark Mite Burrower Queen might bring up an energy resist, or using Merek Death's Head might replace the dizzy with a strong disease special for a "damage over time" pet.
Many of the top recipes rely on this technique, so it is a good one to get quite familiar with. Making "cheap" pets like jaxes or gnorts, and naming them "High-Resist DNA" or something similar can help identify those samples quickly when you're going on to the next generation combines as well.

Thank you that helps. i won't do it much now but will play around as learning BE is fun. I now understand how it can be useful when i get much higher in BE and agree now it would not help me other than to learn about all the skills needed for BE. Again Thank you, your post's cleared up the issue.

I think this is a common enough question and a significant enough topic to be worthy of an inclusion in the FAQ. My writing style seems to be in question lately, so anyone else willing to create a post on the subject and techniques of "generational cloning" to make this easier to find?
