Thread: Mask scent ?? Is this a must when trying to sampleDNA

Hi,
I was wondering if having this on gives me a higher rate or success ?? I am not sure, so I wanted to get you opinions since I have just started BE.

No, mask scent wont give you a higher chance of getting a sucessful sample but it will reduce the chance of being attacked whilst gathering samples

For grinding BE it's not really a must since there are plenty of non-aggro mobs available near cities on Naboo and Corellia as well as higher level stuff such as pickets when you move higher up the sampling tree.
But if you are planning on keeping BE and making good pets then mask scent is an absolute must because many of the creatures that have nice DNA are aggressive and you won't be able to get anywhere near them without mask scent.

Actually it is possible to DNA sample without Mask Scent - even from high level aggressive creatures.
I'm not saying I would recomend this but if you dont want to spend the skill points on mask scent you dont have to.

Heh.... I've sampled Mutant Rancors with no mask scent, meep! I must be insane!

Dag, NancyJ, how'd you do that? I had Mask Scent at +115% and I couldn't get closer than 30m before they wanted to beat my ass into the ground!

As long as they have their backs turned toward you you can pretty much run up and tap them on the shoulder sometimes, mask scent or no. But I wouldn't recomment anyone doing the crawl up on a Mutant Rancor with it's back turned. Takes too long to get there and if the Rancor gets the wanderlust, he'll step on ya.

Voke's way of sampling M. Rancors:
1. Get an elite combat profession (like TKM).
2. Get some Ubese Armor and a buff
3. Go to Dath and head West towards the Imperial Prison (Rancor Valley)
4. Find a M. Rancor spawn and proceed to kick their asses
5. Once they are all dead harvest em and wait at the spawn point
Just stand still and wait for em to re-spawn. As they spawn, DNA sample em (doh). I've done this with no mask scent.
I found this to be the most time efficient way as you dont have to waste time crawling or waiting for rancors to kill one another.

Yup this works....I have another trick....currently i'm a MHS/MBE and i area attack Mutant/Enraged Rancor 6 at a time and everytime 3 or 4 walk away from the fight with 100 health bars left.....once the argo is completely off you just walk up to them(in most cases there is no need to walk) and sample away.
