Thread: Meaning of creature base-to-hit statistic?

Sorry if this question has been asked a lot before but I tried using the search function and didn't turn up anything.

I was wondering how the base-to-hit statistic on creatures affects combat? Anyone have any insight into the math behind this number? How does this number compare to players' accuracy numbers (e.g. if I have a +90 pistol accuracy and my pet has a base-to-hit of 0.5 who's more likely to hit)? Is a large increase in this number worth working for?

Thanks.

That is a very good question, I wish I knew the answer, I have never even played with that stat, I wonder how we could even test it.

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.

It's the percentage of the time you're pet is actually going to land an attack. It's affected by the mental attribute mostly.

Now is that land an attack, or land a full blow?

toHit is the percentage (expressed as a decimal) that a creatures attack will hit the opponent.

I think it'simportant to note that toHit is just one variable used in determing the relative power of a pet using the damage per second formula.

(damage x .to-hit) / speed

Example:

Pet 1

(500 dmg x .38 toHit) / 2.16 AttackSpeed = 88 dps

Pet 2

(450 dmg x . 45 toHit) /2.16 AttackSpeed =94 dps

So in this example we can see how although the 2nd pet has lower damage the toHit value gives the pet a higher damage per second value. So in comparison if you wanted a pet that does the most damage in the same amount of time pet 2 would be the better of the two.

I'm curious as to what the cap is on the Base-to-hit, anyone?

Thanks -- this looks like a reasonable interpretation of how the statistics work without taking into effect the opponent.

However, I'm also wondering if anyone knows how this works in regards to the opponents defense statistics (e.g. melee defense, dodge, counterattack, etc.)? The way I understandPvP combat to work isyour attack accuracy (and any movement or posture accuracy mods) is compared to the defender'sbasic defense mods (e.g. melee defense) along with some random variables ("rolling the dice"). If you hitthen the system checks to see whether the defender's secondary defenses (e.g. dodge, etc.) allowed them to avoid the otherwise successful attack.

My question is does our pets' base-to-hit statistic just substitute for the offensive player's accuracy stat -- or is some other calculation involved? If it's some other calculation then what are it's specifics? Is therea cap (i.e. no matter how bad or good the base-to-hit is there is still some fixed percentage chance to hit or miss)? Is it linear or nonlinear in it's interaction with the defensive mods?

Thanks to anyone out there with this level of information.

Wow thats some question. I'd be curious to know the answer as well. To date my use of toHit has always been for dps calculation to compare 1 pet to another. But this would be interesting to know.
