Ok, I know this is probably in the FAQ section but I can't for the life of me find it. I ws wondering during what phaze of the crafting process do you experiment the difficulty of the pet down or more how do you do it. I have been trying to craft a pet for a friend in the hopes that he could have something good to grind with but I guess the complexity of the pet does not relate to the usability of it. I craft a complexity 10 pet and it turns into a lvl 31 monster...lol....can anyone explain this to a noob BE?

Just to quote the FAQ...
"Creature Level
The short version is we don't really understand the algorithm that is used. The hope would be that CL would take all of the above into effect. Practically however it seems to mostly depend on damage, resists and the CL of the donors. In addition the CL determining algorithm is supposed to change soon. This makes most of our current guesses fairly pointless. Please note however there are a few important levels from a sales perspective. CL10 is the non-CH level. CL12 is the novice CH level. CL23/24 is the "triplets" level for an MCH. (23 + 23 + 24 = 70). CL35 is the "twins" level for an MCH. (35 + 35 = 70). CL 60-70 is the single large, hay look what I've got level. You also need to watch out for agro templates when combined with CL 60+ creatures. To control these you need some form of aggressive bonus. The two standard places to get these bonuses are the Wookie racial bonus and taming bonuses from clothing. (The second comes from our tissue line)"

You don't experiment on the level itself. The level is determined by the stats of your critter. It is also worth pointingour BE 'skins' have minimum level. this would mean you can't make a non-ch rancor for instance.
One way to try to figure out how to how to make pets is to search this forum for recipes, and see what they make, then try modifying them a bit so youcan find outwhat the effects are.
Just to get you started, if your friend is a new CH he won't be able to use pets that are much over Non-ch. Therefore a non-CH pet should do him fine. I use a non-ch recipe of VD/VD/NS/NS/NS where VD is Voritor Dasher from Dantooine, and NS is Nightspider from Naboo. I then experiment the physique up to about 25% maximum. This should give a cl10 critter with about 6k/3k/1.5k HAM and some small resists in Kin/Blast. This is loads better than a wild pet cl10 and I find sells rather well for about 15k on my server.

Lol experiment the creature level down, hehe good one.
Unlike other crafting professions (although apparently we're not a crafting profession) our experimentation isn't as black/white as that. Knowing what to experiment on and how much is something that will come of time, as you learn how each line effects the final creature. You will know, don't worry. You will see how to bring the CL down... soon, young padawan.
