Thread: Open discussion: The Warren, a sign of cybertechnology for professions?
Well no doubt many people have been to The Warren already, as abio-engineer the concept of cybernetics and genetic experimentation made me go there simply for a look around. I wasn't very impressed on the whole with the B-move plot and what was just existing mobs with changed stats and names but it got me thinking about if this might be a precursor to the developers intergrating cybertech as something for one or more professions to get involved with. From my personal opinion I don't think they'll be doing it in a number of ways but there is still one possibility which would be nice, I'll come to that later.
Please note that this topic contains spoilers (as if you couldn't guess the plot to the Warren the second you walk in the door), if you don't want to know them please stop reading now.

On the whole what the Warren experiments showed us was three types of technology:
- mind control using a device
- organic tissues to enhance droids
- cybernetic components to enhance organic beings
I'll start with the most obvious assumption here which people will be thinking.. will we be seeing cyber implants for pets. Well on the whole I'd say maybe. The reason being is that in the Warren the only change for the cybernetic Huurton and Dune lizards was increased damage output, resistances and such. Naturally this means that the CL rating for the creature is higher. While this means that under the new system it's not an option as we have control over the CL anyway during the creation there is the possibility of cyber enhancements for existing pets. However given that bio-engineers are supposed to handle the pet and enhancement trade I'd say it's a 'might' but it's unlikely as cybernetics in that respect means droid engineers would make the component.
Next we have the mind control device, this is another MIGHT although again it comes from the droid engineers who are not by design supposed to enhance. One way this might work is if you can change the behavior of the pet with a control chip implant or over-write its current special moves.
Finally there is on thing which I think might be a distinct possibility to be added. The Warren showed that droids gained enhanced combat effectiveness when they had organic components merged with the technology. A brain for example helped to increase the combat effectiveness significantly plus it lowered the power drain for the droid, also nerve fibers used in conjunction with the circuitry lead to faster reaction times. So there is a chance we might be able to help enhance droids with organic components, the only drawback from a logical point of view is the brains thing. If we synthesise a brain then technically it's just a lump of meat, the only way you'd see an improvement would be if it contained knowledge and an actual mind. That leass to two possibilities..
- bio-engineers removing brains from animals
- droid engineers 'programming' a blank brain with a control chip
In the long run both at viable options but the ability to remove an animals brain is one of the more 'cool' ideas, in the Warren they took a Krayt brain and stuck into the chassie of an AT-ST leading to some odd results. The idea of a cybernetic brain for droids would only be benficial for the new combat capabilities, this would be reflected by increase accuracy, speed per attack and maybe even a special move since specials are what allows anything to fight above their CL ratings. The drawback is that these droids would now have a sense of self preservation making it possible for them to respond like a pet and not take commands even though they are a droid when bleeding or under attack.
