In the recipies thread i saw where people were saying they used good meats and flora but I thought it didn't matter, so which is it?

In the old ways in matter, but with the new patch, it doesn't, so I have been told, because if you look at the creatures list, there is nothing to indicate that it does.

I think the fact that you can't experiment after using it is enough to say it doesn't matter. Be a nasty trick if the devs made it matter without letting us mess around with the end product. Maybe they'll fix this to let us lower CL lvl in the end, but one can only hope.
