I see from the posts in recent days that that very few people have said they have a desire to be the new BE correspondent (BEC). I have to believe there are more people who have applied than the few on here who have said so. I think it is important that we know who is interested in the position so that we might weigh in on what we want in a new BEC. Thunderheart has let it be known that community sentiment will be taken into account. So while I have not been overly acctive on these forums in the past I will say that I have applied.

I think that ourBEC should be a Master BE who intends on keeping the profession no matter what. This statement is not meant as an attack on anyone. While I agree with NancyJ that BE is an overly intensive skill point profession and that should be addressed, I cannot help but think that the BEC should have BE as their main characters main profession. We can all agree that there are certainly problems with the profession now, especially the current invalid pet problem, but I think that the new BEC needs to be willing to stick it out through thick and thin. If not we might run into the problem of the postition becoming a revolving door of sorts. For lack of a better example I point to the sports world, a team constantly changing coaches rarely suceeds, without stability it seems that things can become chaotic at best (Arizona Cardinals!!!). I feel that this attitude of "I am a BE no matter what!" would be a great asset to the BEC and would provide great incentive for him/her to constantly strive for the best possible development of the profession.

While I consider myself to be a HUGE longshot to obtain the position, especially since I have not posted a lot on here, I would like to offer my services to whoever the new BEC is to help out in any way I can. If those of you who have applied would like to voice some opinions on this thread I would welcome that greatly. We all know that this person must be able to communicate clearly and exhibit patience. Maybe a little background into their reasons for wanting the postion and why they chose the profession might be in order, as well as what direction they would liketo see BE head in.

I have been playing since a few days after release and have never wanted to be anything but a BE. Unfortunately due to a pretty bad accidentI had to take a while off, but am happy to say I am still alive and kicking and am here to stay. While I was unable to play I visited these forums often and tried to keep abreast of the profession's development. No matter what happens to the profession I will always be a Master BE. I suppose it is the mad scientist aspect of the profession that first drew me to the profession, but it is the complexity, challenge and sense of accomplishment that have ensured my dedication. I just get a kick out of successly crawling up behind a Mutant Rancor and pricking him with a needle. It is a pretty good feeling when that message pops up saying you have succesfully obtained DNA. The feeling of having a pet come out just as planned is pretty cool too.

As for what direction I would like to see BE head? Well I would obviously like to see the whole class problem worked out, let us know within reason what is or isn't allowable for non-ch. I would also like to see the profession become a little less static, by this i mean the whole tissue situation. While I have nothing against the tissues and the high demand for them right now, they were certainly not the reason I became a BE. Any BE could easily harvest resources and go blind clicking away making tissues, but how about allowing us to make money in other ways? Our pet problems and the changes to CH have certainly affected the demand for our creatues. How about some type of quest for Rare DNA, perhaps extinct creatures? Something that only we can make, not to be found in the wild. Just a thought ... not that I think the BEC will play a huge role in adding new things. As I said though, while I think that BE has and always should focus on crafting, adding some missions or quests would provide a welcome break from constant crafting and perhaps provide another source of income.

Regardless of who gets the position I think that the future of the Bio-Enginner is up to those of us who love it. I do not know of another profession where there seems to me such a sense of community. We are all in this together and it is up to us to help the BEC make our concerns to the devs accurately understood. The importance ofwhatever current concerns affect the professionand obtaining swift solutions should be what we all strive for.

I look for someone who can boil down the fat and get to the root-cause of an issue in 10 words or less.

No need for a fancy debater. It's better to have a correspondant who can listen and objectively and IMPARTIALLY take the sides of an issue (often more than two sides) and list the pros and cons in a non-inflammatory manner.

The better this person is at boiling down the fat and listing the real issue in a consice manner, the better it will be to have the developers actually take notice.

A developer is typically going to SCAN through 100 issues and attempt to rank them in some sort of priority - based on easy of fix, seriousness of the problem, etc.

First off I would like to say that who ever does end up with the Correspondent job will get no envy from this fish

I have been fairly involved, in the past, with the CH community. Just as a regular ol' poster I found it incredibly frustrating dealing with the complete idiotism of TH when it came to the CH profession.

Statements were made by him on a regular bases, back in the December/post December CH nerf and then again with the "calling pet in the wild timer", that made me seriously question if the DEVs/SOE reps ignore their correspondents as much as they ignore the rest of us.

Add that in with the fact that not only is a Correspondent **paying** SOE to play their game they are offering a time intensive commitment to SOE with no reimburseement what-so-ever... Sort of like paying a cover charge to get into a club only to volunteer your time to driving the drunks home who have been having fun partying all night long

Anyhow, as far as who I want as the new BE correspondent:

Someone who has been an active member here at the forums and has taken the time to post guides, FAQs, creature recipes, etc etc etc

someone who has taken the time to help others on a semi-regular bases answering newbie questions

someone has an understanding of math and an ability to use excel

someone that can listen to others and take into account their position even if they dont agree with them

someone who doesnt let criticism get personal

most importantly, someone who has the time to invest into a profession that will likely not get another serious look by the DEVs for some time.

Personally I dont see how anyone would want that job

I have already stated in a previous thread my top 3 picks was ArthurDentonBria, NancyJ, and Tal-N. Because of Tal-N's RL circumstances I narrowed that down to Arthur and Nancy... Because of Nancy wanting to try another profession I narrowed it down to Arthur... However, aftering hearing what Nancy said on that topic in her thread she made to announce her bid, I would nowre-widen my choices back to Arthur and Nancy.

Personally I would like to see one of them get it. Most of us know those two as active and helpful posters who have shown their love and patience for this profession. To know that a familiar face is working on our behalf would be a comfort to someone like me who knows we are likely in for a rocky road of DEV ignorment

Having said that, I personally would keep an open mind to others that apply... However, in the end, it is up to TH to make that decision and I highly doubt, even while he posted to the contrary, that much weight will be given to what the average Joe in here has to say.
