Thread: The new phonebooks are here! The new phonebooks are here! (Cloning)
No offence Talthazar, but I think I can speak for all the BE's of SWG when I say,
We'll believe it when we see it.
Well Kromeboy, you do not speak for me.........
Thanks Keldarin &Talthazar
Thank you!!!
I hope all goes well and it will indeed make the publish, but even if some unforseen bug or issue should somehow prevent it, its good to know that no matter what, the system is complete or very close to being complete
I agree, when we see it, then life will be good. I have been a BE for about a month now, and like it alot. Do not intend to drop it. I have not been through as much as the others on this forum, but have seen enough to know, when it hits the TC/Live Server, I will believe it.
Thanks for keeping us informed, it is very welcome.
TY so much Talthazar--I can't imagine a more loveless job than BE correspondent (well, maybe Chef, DE, or squad leader...but still...). We're a tough and demanding (and truly neglected) profession, and the messenger frequently gets to be shot with the message. Still...I appreciate your efforts on our behalf, and given the magnitude of the problem, I'm understanding of the delay from Keldarin (though he really needs to learn to give timelines and updates more regularly even if it's through you)
.
Some things which Keldarin left out that I would like to see clarified regarding the new cloning system:
- "...you should have nearly infinite diversity within the limits of the available appearances."Here, hewas very vague regarding your point about diversity. I'm not as interested as to whether our dewbacks will stack up against the myriad naturally-occuring dewbacks (though, believe me that is an issue right now), I'm more interested in whether or not we'll be able to have truly a broad set of skins from which to choose (i.e., fliers, snakes, spineflaps, rills, graul maulers, cowardly gurrecks, GSPs, etc., etc.). In other words, define "infinite" in the backdrop of "limits" above (the vagueness of his replies is also a major source of many BEs' frustration). Incidentally, mathematically speaking, nothing is nearly infinite and infinite amounts do not have limits
. - Clarification as to what we'll be able to customize in the creature other than the stats and the CL: skin design/texture, tattoos, etc. I am aware that we will have a limited color palatte and I understand that.
- Will the clone's creator bearthe creator's name or not? He said this is, "this is not trivial to implement." My question is why can this be done with weapons, armor, etc., but not with this? Doesn't the creature's stats remain with the creature? Why isn't creator part of that? Please expand on why this is.
- Comment on where we are on UT as a stat component for schematics (dumped from the equation or not?).
- And most importantly: ARE WE GOING TO GET TO COMMENT ON THE NEW SYSTEM BEFORE IT'S IMPLEMENTED? Can we provide feedback? Or is this a done deal? It would be nice if we had a more open exchange of ideas rather than a mysterious implementation
.
Thanks!
Then again, TC blew up on Sat, and is not expected to be up until Monday last I heard.
(Not that it means that BE fixes will be there when it comes back up).
I dunno who else is on TC, but my character there is 45 med crafting XP from Novice BE. I plan to play a TC BE in the time slots I normally play my live BE, to try and find bugs. I'll get back to my live BE, when he's not so broken...
If you do have a TC character, please help gather materials for Talthazar to craft with. He'll be able to move up and down the skill trees at will, but Correspondents don't get meat, flora etc. for free. I'll be perfectly happy to pass over anything I can get my hands on to help him out.

Well, I'm really not sure here. Devs tend to like to be mysterious and try and letpeoplediscover things. It's a very popular feeling among devs in any of the other MMO's I've played that this discovery is part of the fun of playing. I'm guessing that's why we've never gotten a list of skins. The "infinite variety" he refers to I believe has more to do with the stat variations possible. That said, we currently have 34 skins. Keldarin has said he's more than doubled the number of skins, so I take that means at least 68 skins to choose from. I have mentioned this to him and he's said here he's tried to include types we don't have. What they are I really don't know yet.

Not sure what you mean here. Are you just asking about the the skin design etc? If so I'm not sure. It's something we can add to the list if we can't.

Again, not sure here. I didn't get any more details today, just the release news. I'm guessing the reason for this is that items created during crafting support the Creator name as do deeds which is what a clone is basicly. Objects created from deeds are completely different objects. I assume it has either to do with the objects themselves not supporting the creatore name or something to do with passing the name from the deed. In our case what's created from a deed is a pet and since pets don't have an Object Creator, they don't support this property.

Actually I have to check my list of bugs. If it's not on there it's something I've forgotten and I'll deffinitely bring this up.

Well, this is in part what putting things on TC is for - finding problems with a new system and fixing them. Given his willingness to announce this, I'm assuming the implementation is pretty much finished so I don't know how much can be changed at this point if we feel things need to be.
