Thread: What is a BE ? First Draft
Bio Engineer
The bio engineer specializes in the creation of organic products. These include enhancement items for Tailors and Chefs, and Creatures.
Creature Clones
A Bio Engineer is able to make creatures from Flora, Meat (harvested by Scouts/Rangers), and DNA Templates. These creatures can then be trained by a Creature Handler and used as a pet.
When a BE creates a creature it will appear in his inventory as a Creature Deed. This is counted as an inventory item in the same way that a harvester deed is. This deed can be traded, placed on the bazaar, or dropped in a building. The deed can also be DNA sampled or Tamed directly. When the deed is dropped it will appear as a 'statue' of the creature you have created. This statue will have slight idle animations but will not move location.
Tissues
The tissue line of products is enhancement items. These are items that can be included in the construction of clothing (tailors), food/drinks (chefs), Pet Stimpacks and Pet Vitality Packs.
Clothing enhancements
These items include a bonus when 'sewn' into clothing. For example, the Constrictor Cloth gives a bonus to Bleed Reduction. Skill enhancements are also available including Wound/Injury Treatment and Mask Scent.
Food Enhancements
These items include a bonus when included into a food receipes. In general, they effect 'pool' stats. For example, an increase in Health with a penalty to Mind.
Pet Stimpacks & Pet Vitality packs
The Pet Stimpack functions the same as a ordinary stimpack however it can only be used on pets. In addition to healing Health and Action damage, it will also heal Mind damage. The Pet Stimpack is also on a separate 'timer' to an ordinary Stimpack. This means that both stimpacks can be used at once effectively doubling your healing capacity on pets. The Pet Stimpack does not require any medical skill to use.
The Pet vitality pet is used to restore a pets vitality. The amount of Vitality points returned is based on the Vitality pack type. Each application of a vitality pack reduces the pets Maximum Vitality permanently. The amount reduced is based on the type of vitality pack used.
DNA Templates
The DNA template required to make a creature is created by joining five DNA samples. A DNA sample is collected from a living creature. It cannot be collected from NPC's, nor from an already killed critter. The quality of the DNA sample depends on the skill of the DNA Sampler and the CL of the creature.
The process of getting a DNA sample is the same as the process for Taming a creature in the wild. The BE must approach the creature without getting attacked. If the BE is attacked, no sample is possible. Once the DNA sample process has begun (this takes around 220 mind) the BE must stay within 15 meters of the target or the DNA sample will fail. If the DNA sample is successful, the BE will receive ONE DNA sample.
Conclusion
Although the BE has many problems it also has great promise. At its heart it is a crafting profession.
BE is a support profession. As I onece heard in a comercial, "We don't make products, we make them better."
The good news, as a BE you won't have to deal with the common folk. Only Elite professions can use what you make (besides pet stims). you will be thecharactor behind the scenes, known only to your contacts (i.e. middle men) and anyone who reads that sign up above your head.
The bad news, we have a narrow market in a small amount of professions. You're probably going to have to advertise more or seek out the contacts you need to sell your goods.
All in all its a lot of fun and has some neat abilities...kind of lost my train of thought in the middle of this post ![]()
