You wanna tell us what it was or do we have to guess?

Grrr.......

Well anyways, before I was so rudely interupted by the board gods....

Last night I was making a Rancor that probably would have turned out to be my best attempt ever. I say would have, because I never got a chance to see a the final results. I somehow managed to hit make manufacturing schematic instead of prototype item. I was very upset because I had managed to get over 900 on both stats related to health, something prior to this point I hadn't managed.

Anyhoo, when I went to delete the schematic from my datapad, I happened to notice that it didn't ask for specific DNA to be input, just required that I have 5 VHQ (with no mention of stats). Then it hit me, the crafting system has no way of identifying individual DNA samples (they have no serial numbers!!), only there quality!!!! This means it has no way of remembering whether a DNA Sample had X for Fortitude or Y Aggression and so on. Tried it again with a left over crap DNA and got end results was a template schematic that's requirements were 3 HQ and 2 AA DNA samples. Simply throw 30 HQ Dna samples and 20 AA DNA Samples, together with schematic into a factory and poof, out pops 10 identical DNA templates .

What does the mean.....well nothing at the moment since they can't actually be put into factories, least not food/chem factories. But what it could mean is that someday we will be able to mass produce our pets. Meaning that super DNA set we collect can actually be saved and mass produce up to 1000 identical critters!!!(20 at a time since the factories input hoppers are limited to 100)

It'll be interesting to see if this will remain unchanged after our clone update hits sometime next month *fingers crossed * If they do in fact remove it, I hope they will remove the option of making a manufacturing schematics, or else at least a few BE will be very annoyed when their best ever creature ends up as only a useless schematic. If it stays I will have to wait and see if I actually like having mass produced critters, or if it actually is more of hinderance and all the BE scream to have it removed before things are ruined .

Anyways, thought I might mention it just to see if anyone else has some thoughts on it.

ON a side note, can't wait to see all the flaming replies to the empty thread that ended up starting this =O

Whether it be a bug, or a great trick which was meant to be in the BE contents. . ., Congrats on your findings.

Krayt tissue of differing serial numbers could be used in factories for a while, but had the added effect of letting a crafter use a 80+ tissue for the schematic and 30s for the factory. This was considered an exploit so the process has reverted to requiring identical serial numbers. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground yet where you can must the same quality but different serial numbers.

So I imagine if we can make pets in factories, this schematic thing you noticed will bechanged as well. Unless you are positive that you must use the same quality that you used in the schematic but not the same exact attributes.

However, given that similar quality DNA from the same species still varies quite a bit, I doubt we will be allowed (for any length of time, anyway) to use a (eg) High Quality sample with 873 fortitude in a schematic and then put in High Quality samples with 562, 893, 902, 421, etc. numbers for the same attribute. In theory, it shouldn't produce the exact same creature, so mass production shouldn't work like that.

Mind you I'd love to have an assembly line for creatures, even though I rarely ever make pets. It'd just be neat to have a vat with kahmurras pumped out by the dozen or something lol.

If the way I saw things is correct, then the only requirements are that you must have the same quality of DNA (ie. if you used 4 VHQ and 1 HQ DNA in the template, you must put 4x VHQ and 1x HQ in the factory). My guess is, as it currently stands, that while the original could come from say a Rancors, the factory stuff, may come yard trash. This would be the only problem I would really have with the system.

For this to not become unbalanced, some consideration for CL should be taken into consideration. However, I don't think the system currently in place can handle that, though. I would also like to repeat that there is no evidence that the attributes in the DNA will have to be the same. Makes since if you think about it, since I'm pretty sure most the numbers are generated randomly anyways, the system has no way to remember the numbers.

Okay, so dumb bunny that I am, I'm confused...did you get crates of templates?!? That would be a huge help with inventory space, even if we can't stuff pet deeds into crates. (Though I don't see why not...don't give me the "how do you fit 25 Rancors into a crate" line, 'cause how the hell do you fit one Rancor into your backpack/datapad either?)

Sadly no, the schematics don't work in factories at this point, least not food/chem factoris anyways. I was just merely pointing out the possibility existed and that you would not have to put DNA samples with the exact same numbers on attributes (which we all know would be impossible).
