I saw the line in the report and I wanted to emphasize that at level 1 my sampling of rills/worts/minor worts is failing about 40% time. I've been a lot of professions but I have never seen such a pain in the ass skill.
I assume that this is changed recently, a friend of mine who had been a BE couldn't believe the numbers I was seeing. This is torture.

As a followup to myself, I noticed a steep decline in failures when I stopped playing with critters that spawn next to town and found a rock beetle lair to poke. By steep I mean from 40% to 8%.
Perhaps non-laired creatures, or newbie spawn creatures are bugged somewhat?

Creatures that are "agitated" seem to be more difficult to sample. I find the easiest creatures to spawn are those that do an obvious "rest" and lie down. If you go up to them while scent masked and sample them while lying down I rarely see a failure. Those same creatures when standing up and bugged by someone walking past seem to bemostly failures.

Yeah, speaking from the view of my novice on test, if the newbie creature tries to run and I have to chase to stay in range it always fails. Idon't have this problem with my main character.
