With mounts unable to attack, the aggro and phych slots can take truely junk DNA. Less work, less aggravation over samples. Just run out in the yard andget 2 samples (any 2 samples).

It's possible that all the slots are junk unless you PvP. In my initial runs on mounts, the mount didn't get attacked at all while I was getting attacked by evil settlers, bocatts, and tuskan raiders. They said that the mount could be attacked, but I wonder if the mobs know that...

What I'm wondering is if I can use crap DNA and then experiment up the template to max out the smaller creatures. I think the Kaadu is hard capped at 990HAM now so as a master I think I'd have a fair chance of reaching that even with less than great DNA.

I made a Kaduu over 1k ham, although it does not seem to like to exceed 1k.
If you build a Kaduu out of yard trash, you will have a stupid pet you dont like. Why do it? You can get CL 10 DNA about anywhere... even from Kaduus. I DNA sampled the Kaduus in the wild and that makes good pets.
Also, if you get off the pet, you can use it as a fighting pet.
It is not likely that the pet will draw aggro because it does not aggro, it is not in the fight. When I have my crafting droid out, he is rarely hit. If you get close enough to get hit, since you are shooting, it is you that gets hit.
