Thread: Did want to become a BE, but second thoughts :(
But having read the latest problems with these uber pets (wasn't the reason I wanted to do BE FYI), and the problems with the documentation (what documentation?), I honestly think this has to be one of the most gimped professions in the game:
1) no one knows how anything works with regards to crafting
2) no one knows what level the creature they'll be making
3) no one basically seems to know anything, its all guess work
Is it really worth becoming a BE at the moment? Sounds like its just plain frustrating to actually become a master (in the sense you understand the profession fully) since there is no documentation about the current state of play.
I cannot imagine why SOE would not provide documentation on how the profession works. I know most professions have some guessing involved, but this profession seems to take the piss.
So is anything coming SOON to help BE's?
I'm hoping my observations above are over-exagerated to some extent, and that the profession is actually a good one. But first impressions aren't good so far
It is a good profession at the moment, with any other crafting profession you go to your harvesters you drop resources with high numbers into the right boxes and you get an item. Repeat!
My Christmas Holocron said architect and that is definately going on the back burner.
With Bio Engineer you go visit adventure planets and actually look round them properly rather than going from POI to POI, you get to socialisethen instantkill some ofthe hardest mobs in the game as you collect your DNA. Then you actually have to experiment to get what you want, rather than just dump all your points into Effectiveness or Charges. (Not that this couldn't be made easier by adding the CL monitor to the experimentation screen, please see and sign http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bio-engineer&message.id=47127) Then you get a brand new creature that are definately in demand and can be sold on for a tidy profit. A lot more satisfying than just doing a harvester run to fill up your factory.

I made a second account to play CH/BE, and i'm almost at novice BE, so I might as well carry on with it - just wanted to know if it was as bad as I'd found on the forums, though I've come to realise these forums probably make it worse than it is.
BE is THE hardest crafting profession in the game. If you are some one who just wants to look at a few stats and slap in the highest quality reasources you have to make the best item, then BE isn't for you. It takes a lot of thoguht and understanding to make good pets, though some people do it well at random.
That being said, BE is probably the most fun crafting profession, you have more control over your final pets than any other crafting profession does for their final product. You also get to play scientist and have to understad a bit about math to make good stuff (or be very lucky). They system is tricky, but a number of people here have put up posts on prety much how it works. Yes tere is still some mystery, but for the most part it is understood. How that will change after all the fixes...I have no idea, but how ever it changes it will be a nother puzzel to solve.
If you like chalanges and puzzles come be a BE. If you want to play mad scientist and mix chemicals in your lab, come be BE. If you want to make 10K HAM lv 10 pets that will be invaid a few days later come be BE (just kidding on that last one).
