Thread: I want my Pumpkin back (sob sob sob)

I have played the game since September and had never really owned a pet (except, briefly a nice lesser bol mount who I never fought with). I had little or no knowledge of CH or BE even though I am active on the boards (mostly galaxy/trade forum stuff).

A friend told me about the great stats on the a bio-engineered pet that she had bought. Since I am doing more solo hunting as a ranger, I thought "what the heck" I would buy one of these uber-pets. I bought my pet from a very nice bioengineer (a nice Red Gurrcat I called Pumpkin after a certain real life feline of mine) and went out a hunting with Pumpkin. With stats like he had, Pumpkin was, of course, amazing and I thought to myself "Hey I see why people like this whole pet things." I started to feel the same warm fuzzy feelings I had towards my virtual Pumpkin as I did to his real life counterpart. I patted him, fed him, played with him, tickled him and rubbed his tummy. He was a good kitty.

Well a couple of days after purchasing Pumpkin, I read a post on my galaxy forum that took a bio-engineer to task for marketing these uberpets. That was my first inkling that something was wrong, seriously wrong. In retrospect I probably should have realized that Pumpkin was overpowered but I assumed since it was in the game it was ok.

So, even with knowledge of the concerns about my uberpet, I soldiered on. Me and Pumpkin, out in the world, having a good time. Until yesterday, when I logged on and found that I could not call my Pumpkin. {insert hysterical sobbing here}

Putting aside the issue of whether Pumpkin was overpowered, whether the bio-engineer should have know that a fix was coming, whether I should have know that Pumpkin was overpowered, the larger issue for me is that I lost my Pumpkin.

In all the posts I have read here so far, no one has really addressed the deeper issue of the emotional attachment between an owner and their pet. Think of the separation anxiety many of us are going through - the anxiety, the heartbreak

Seriously, though I hope that the developers fix it so that I can someday call my Pumpkin again, even if he had only 600 ham and 20 dmg attack.Even ifhis virtual housecat namesake could take him in a fight.I just want to pat his fuzzy red head one last time.

For now, I will occasionaly CTRL-D open my Datapad to look at my friend, Pumpkin and think of the times we had

Thunderheat mentioned that in the next publish they are going to come up with a trade-in program to lower the stats of these overpowered pets. Hold on to Pumpkin until then and see how it works out.

I hope they do a better job with this trade in than the last. I don't think anyone will be happy trading a red gurreck to receive an unamedbrown jax in its place. Having the stats go down wouldbe fine but I thinkmore effort should be put into maintaining the skin.

If you want to be a CH, then become one. Sounds like you are the type that would enjoy being a CH. Pumpkin was a high level pet that you could only use do to a bug that was exploited by the BE that sold it to you. If you want to use a high powered pet, then it is simple, become a CH. Being a ranger you have the prerequs for it and probably the exp. There is a trainer behind the bank in coronet.

As to calling that pet again, they stated a fix will be put in that will give people some means to use them again with the next publish. They never said what that was, be it a CL increase or stat reduction. BTW all animals of the same model have the same AI and animations, so a cl10 pumkin or cl30 pumkin will act and look the same. Many CHs keep multiple copies of the same pet/name to call when one verision gets low on health.

In short you can have pumkin again, and again and again, and with the new system pumkin can be tailor made with different specials and resists for just the right situation. How powerful it is depends on the BE skilled in making them and the level you can control, unlike a few days ago when it was how well your BE could read the boards and make invalid pets.

The plain and simple truth is....the development team has an odd sense of what balance in a game is.

Their idea of balance is more like the Killer Dungeon master philosophy, at least thats what it seams from their balancing.

You are not a hero you are just fodder.

You will never be more powerful then anything else much, even a low level storm tropper is stronger then you, no matter your abilities, and they run around in groups normally.

The onyl way that people beat the machines is using superior brain power and using the game mechanics in their own favor...like using terrain to block or hinder something, or else running and taking super well aimed pot shots while the target is in a river.

So anywsie...I am willing to bet the Team feels that a player will get up to a certain point and die...thats it...the idea of coming back to life they hate...they want more penalties then common sense.

Its these types people that quickly lose there players in a table top game, and get bad reps.

And thats why you no longer have your pet to control, it was making your life easier, when you should be dieing to Thugs and things.

Oh and BTW you have to be an NON-CH to use that. I am still stuck with my 0 (-1) plodding fulomoset(sp) cause I happen to be a MCH.

whats the point of bio engineering profession if we cant make stronger, faster, smarter and more controllable pets? why is bio engineering needed when a ch can produce the same things. the newest fix only strips the bio engs like my self from making the best in the game. another nurf to make competing classes happy and rob happy people of their pumkins. I wish the CH'ers would stop cring because their profession was nurfed.

BE's can make custom engineered pets, like the fast Gurreck with ranged attack, red skin, and 2 special attacks... at the cost of some damage and attack speed /accuracy. That's the BE advantage, custom engineered pet, not mass produced unbalanced pets..

Frankly I think if there was just a better vision of balance and less reative changes we'd all be better off. The 10K uber pets were unbalancing and unfair to a lot of people, including CHs. However having it set so that the best non-CH pets are tamed from the wild by CH's or made by BE's would also be unfair. BE is the crafting proffession devoted to making combat pets. The best pets at ANY level should be made by BEs. We don't make pets that craft, heal, store your luggage, store your data, heal each other and fight. We make pets that JUST fight. The rapier is a better weapon then the swiss army knife. Thats how it should be. We also craft for a living. We spend more characters points than CH so that we can make pets. CH's make there money by being a combat class and training pets/mounts. We need a basic way of determing some fair, balanced advantages for BE pets. The pets we makeshould not be 10K HAM with good resist at CL10, but they should be better than ANY wild tameable CL10 creature. Whats more the advantageof a master created CL10 pet should be bigger than the advantage of a novice created CL10 pet. These principles should apply at every level of creature. This seems very basic to how the crafting system works. Weaponsmiths make weapons better than artisansmade weapons or anything found in the wild. The same should apply hear.

My preference for this would be simply make the creatures as we do now with "normal" and consistent CL rules applied and displayed during the crafting process. Then for the final combine there would be an oppurtunity to experiment down the CL. It should take approximatly 2 great successes to experimentdown the CL by 1.
