Thread: What are you guys generally paying for carnivore meat?
I've been lugging around some carni meat for awhile (about 3k of 850ish OQ / 650ish PE, and I'm trying to move the stuff. I'm curious to know if you all need / use this quality carni meat, and what you wound consider a fair price for it.
Thanks in advance for any guidance. Happy holidays.
I've been practising making micronutrient supplements… and as such won’t pay more than 2 to 3 cpu.
I thought meat didn't have any impact on creatures.... if so, eek to me.
I generally pay 3-4 Per Unit of meat for grinding purposes
Not sure if it's just me, but around the time a) mounts came out and b) holo grinding became a big thing, I've noticed meat prices skyrocket to somewhat ridiculous levels. I tend to define ridiculous as about 15 cpu or more. Personally, when I'm buying meats (or other resources), I tend to try to stay with a 3-5 cpu range. 7-10 cpu is reserved for only really high quality stuff. I'm sure part a good deal of the price rise was partially caused by the mount launch, and with the new cloning system, opportunists are figuring BEs will need a lot of meat to make good creatures and want to try to capitalize on that.
What I'm sure most non-BEs don't know though, is that since the new cloning publish, MEAT QUALITY NO LONGER HAS ANY BEARING ON THE FINAL STATS OF ANY PET WE MAKE.
Now, meat quality does matter for a bunch of things, but I think we need a reality check here. You may think I'm being cheap if I'm not willing to pay 10 cpu or more for resource, but let's look at why. A nice, regular source of income for BEs (particularly novices) is making pet stimpacks and vitality packs. Heck, some may also make medic stimpacks also. If a BE were to make a Pet Stimpack - A, and paid 10 cpu for all resource components, it would cost 760 cr to make one stim (1160 cr by comparison if it were made completely with "Advanced" stim components). So, what should one sell a stimpack to someone for, ifthey spent 10 cpu for all resources? 750 cr? Yeah, right! ![]()
That same Pet Stimpack - A, made with resources costing all 3 cpu, would cost a BE 228 cr to make (348 cr if made completely with Advanced Med components). Ifone was selling a stimpack made with 10 cpu resources, you can sure of a price of at least 800 cr per stim, whereas a 3 cpu/resourceone would sell for 350 - 400 cr per stim. What sounds better to you as the buyer?
So, what I'm trying to say is, people that gather meat to sell to BEs (and Medics, Doctors, etc.) should take this into account when pricing. Almost everyone who has novice medic will need to buy stims. I know of lots of people that have novice medic that simply do not want to deal with crafting and would rather buy stims. With the recent pet/creature nerf, Pet Stimpack usage seems to be on the rise (from my experience at least). What I've seemed to noticed is that pet users need stims more because their favorite pets like GSPs and grauls have had their kinetic resistances dramaticallylowered and subsequently take more damage in combat.
Personally, as my regular customers know, my pricing is based on the strength and charges of the stims I produce. However, I do note down my resource costs and avoid the extremely high priced resources so I don't have to raise my stim prices. If BEs and other Medic based professions have to pay premium prices for their resources, it would only make sense that the same thing should happen to the consumer prices also, right?
Yes meat has no bearing on pets, but on tissues, it has a very large bearing. High OQ meat, even carnivore meat is very useful when it comes to making tissues, as you need a generic creature food for one slot. I make tons of tissues and this meat would make a diference in stats.
Now as for what to pay, I believe in taking care of resource providrers that take care of me. If they search me out and we can make a long term business contract, I will always tip to make sure they are taken care of and think of me first when they get some really good stuff. You would be surprised when you tip 10-15% on top of a deal how much it is appreciated and how much they come back to you.
As for Dath insect meat, depending on the stats of the meat, I start at 7 cpu, this is because to get it is a royal pain in the arse. Time, effort, cloning, and pet meds to get it cost the supplier.
Taking care of the resource collector should be a high priority and not trying to lowball good quality meat from him/her. I have no problem asking them to get me a specific resource if it pops up great and they know that one, they will get what it is worth, and two, I will take care of them if they need something, either creds or free pet stims.
Radnog, I fully agree with you. I do have regular resource collectors myself, and I do take care of them for their services.
Perhaps I should have been a little more specific about certain things in my post. The intent of my post was an attempt to help out beginning BEs (and medic professions as well). Funds tend to be limited for most people in the early going, and for newbie BEs, their main sources of surplus meat will come from two sources, what they harvest on their own (or what friends give them), and what they can manage to find on the bazaar terminals. One thing I realized I failed to mention was my experiences of finding OQ < 100 meat in the bazaar selling for 50, 100 or more cpu in wonderful lots of 5!
Not only is this ridiculous pricing, but what in the world can one do with so little? Serious (and smart) resource collectors from my experience will tend to sell in usable lots, and make a little more sense in pricing, and if they're serious about being a long-term supplier for someone, they'll make contact with the buyer after the sale. However, I'm not sure it's easy for an early novice BE (2/2/2/2 and below) to constantly have the funds available to be able to afford expensive resources. From the resource collector's standpoint, if they're supplying several people at once, who will be approached with the better resources first, provided the relationshipwith all their customers are strictly on the professional level, the Masters or the Novices?
It was never my intention to tell the BE community to "lowball" resource collectors, but rather to make them aware of the costs that can incur when making the basic things that provide lower level BEs with a steady flow of income. I'm sure you'd agree that it's not fair for a BE to pay 20 cpu for their resources to make a pet stim, then charge for that stim a price where they would lose money, right? For those that think petstims are too limited a product for steady income given the recent CH nerf, a lot of people tend to forget that BEs are (at the least) versed in Organic Chemistry IV. With the exception of Master Medics and other elite Medic professions, no one makes better stimpacks and medpacks than a BE.
