Thread: Bought my first BE pet, can someone explain please?

Ok, I read the FAQ, and I must be missing something completely obvious.
I have Creature Handler 0/1/0/1 which gives me Max Level of Pets +16 and Taming Wild Creatures +15
I purchased my first BE pet last night to check it out... here's a screen shot of the pet.
When I went to the radial menu and selected "tame" I got the message "you lack the skill to be able to tame that creature" (as you can see in the bottom of the screenshot)
Can anyone please explain this? I thought I would be able to tame and use a level 15 pet... BE'd or not...
It was late and I admit I didn't spend an enormous amount of time with it as I had to log off. The only thing I can think of at the moment is maybe I have my max amount of pets in my datapad and it's just giving me an incorrect message?

Choku is an aggressive skin. You will need a higher +Taming vicious creatures.

I'm new at BE/CH but how many pets do you have tamed already? My first thought is that you might have maxed out the amount of pets you can have tamed at anyone time...

I'm pretty sure chokus are aggro. You need Taming Vicious Creatures skill.

Ahh, I see the Taming Vicious Creatures beginning on the 2nd rung of the 1st column of CH....

I guess there's no way to know that when purchasing a BE'd pet though huh? Just kind of a "buyer beware" situation

You could have a look at the BE FAQ http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bio-engineer&message.id=53300
Point 9 is the one your after ;o) If it says "Aggresive" you'll need a little bit more skill (not sure of the exact amount) than what the actual level says you need.
If you buy some +Tame clothes, that will help.

Ya know I looked at that part of the FAQ, read the first few paragraphs but completely blew over the list of creatures... now I feel like an idiot ...
but thanks for pointing that out directly... next time I shop I will consult that list first...
I'll also look into your tip about the +Tame clothing

You get a whole different message when you don't have space in your datapad for another pet and the text is sufficiently different from this one that it's pretty clear where the problem is. My guess is what's been suggested a couple times so far, the skin is aggressive and you don't have enough vicious creature levels to tame it.
