I am considering going this route on a new char. I have talked to some BE's but would really like to get a sence of the personal rewards - notjust $$$ rewards that keeps you a BE.

Thanks

For me? its the uniqueness of it, no other proffession is quite like this, its challenging on many levels, i wouldnt say there is a huge profit involved, so i hope that isnt a motivation to become a BE, also aswell as being a unique proffession, it is excedingly rare (at least on valcyn) i get bugged daily to play my BE for base takedowns, refuse 90% of the time too as i absolutely HATE pvp and to a lesser extent combat all around. And on top of that i find it very relaxing, just exploring planets, finding creatures, playing the mad scientist with DNA, its a blast and it never stops being fun, ever trying to beat your own personal records in various area's.

you know you're having fun with it when you make a pet and say to yourself "I wish i could use that "

this is a fun profession to do with CH. It becomes a lot easier if you're ranger because you can track the animals you want and harvest a lot of meat from them.

My main hunter has decided to train up in CH.. So my BE trainee char is a perfect compliment. My GF and I also have a tailor and chef, so we use all the skillsets a BE has to offer.

And the exploration is fun. Sometimes it is nice to be able to get away alone and explore. Being a BE is a perfect excuse to give your PA guildmates and let's you have some peace... well.. right up til the moment you get killed, of course. hehe

You get killed?

I never get killed....

Of course, being a master be/almost master doc also means that I do not have any skill points left over for anything but exploration 3, so I cannot actually kill anything either but then again, that's what friends are for ...

I have tried numerous professions <cough>28<cough> in my still futile search for that elusive FS slot. This has been by far the most rewarding for me as a player and a profession that I have kept through the last 8 masteries and plan to keep forever <looks at BH and shudders at the thought>.

The community is one of the brightest and mature that I have come accross as a whole. Most are willing to help out and share in an attempt to better the community. I have created a devoted customer base which has turned into some of my best friends on the server. Monetary rewards? Yes, they exist... but beyond my own monetary rewards I have created over a dozen millionaires on my server through purchasing that blasted meat that is so difficult to obtain in quantities. There is something to be said about receiving a message from someone you have been working with that goes something like this, "WOOHOO!! I just broke 1 million credits!! Yes! Yes! Yes! Thank YOU! Thank YOU! Thank YOU!"

And finally... I create some of the meanest, baddest, creatures in the galaxy! There is a certain rush that occurs as you don your bloodstained lab coat and pick up your little black bag and play god.

Just my 2 credits worth...

If nothing else makes this profession (read: obsession) fun, it's catching newbs in the wild and over-sampling something.

"Wow! Are you a Jedi? How'd you do that?"

"Like this- hold still a second...heh heh..."

There are lots of little things that I enjoy about this profession;

>making a huge petting zoo in your house

>getting promotional gifts of brandy and canapes from chefs wooing you for schematics

>the actual adrenaline rush of tiptoeing up to a rancor or something nasty

>making dna templates from the strangest combinations possible (hey- you never know...Pugoriss/pugoriss/pharple/pharple/spined puc.....)

The thing I like most about BE is that, moreso than any other crafting profession, its not solely about the quality of resources and tools you use. Anyelite artisan prof is going to be exactly the same from one char to another if you use the same stuff. BEs, at least the pet tree, have an ability to make unique pets; its more an art form than any artisan tree. You can be a great BE simply by being smart and dedicated, and a bit of a numbers cruncher =) Its not just a contest to see who canrack up the most +experiment mods with their SEAs and stockpile 100k units of 990 OQ 990CD copper.

There are so many things I love about my Master BE.

  • Its a Unique profession, no one does anything like what we do.

  • So many other professions rely on us, Chef, Tailors, CH

  • It mixes well withmany professions.

  • The hard grind and lack ofdetails keeps the amount of Bio engineers down

  • Our products vary so much, we can make Pets, Chef tissues, Tailor tissues, Pet stims

  • We get to choose how busy we are, you can either work at what you like doing and just sell what you want to make otherwise, at the moment I have chefs and tailors fighting over me.

  • A majority of resources we use don't rely on quality, grinding quality stuff will do just aswell as expensive stuff.

There are the annoying parts but they can all be worked around.

  • No one knows what tailor tissues we can make but with a little educating they soon work it out

  • The time factory runns take for me but its generally worth the wait

  • Rancors don't like being sampled for DNA

Can't actually think of any more

The fun stuff for me is that it provides a direction and a reason for hunting those rare and unusual critters soI can steal thier DNA and/or thier babies. Piles of meat I can buy on the bazaar and constant killing gets a bit same-y. It's a great profession for those whoprefer to hunt with a camera (or DNA sampler in this case) rather than with a gun.

I truly appreciate all the great and thoughtful answers, Seems like this is a calling that has definite appeal to me. I know it will be a long journey but seems that the goal is worth it.

Thanks
