Thread: Yay for me, as I finish off a productive game weekend.
Probably the number one thing that puts you over CL10 is damage - I have seen that more often than any other single factor, though it is far from the only one.
Resists of any kind other than the primary one you are trying for also raise the CL quickly. If you're trying for a good CL 10, pick one or at most 2 resists that you want, and make EVERYTHING else vulnerable, and you will have some room to work.
Ferocity trips the switch often too - power is not the only thing agression changes, and going over 50 or so there will almost certainly result in a CH level creature.
Other than those tips, I'm as in the dark as anyone else, even after months as a master and hundreds of pets made. It is such a complex system, and still so far from predictable that it is black art and alchemy more than science, I fear.
That being said, it's also fun. Good luck, that seems to be the most important ingredient.
Oh, and wear a red head scarf and stand on your left foot only when experimenting on prowess...
