Thread: Character Template Clarification Please

I would appreciate any input/opinions from practicing BEs out there regarding a BE character template.

I have searched the board and have read the posts regarding character templates. Also, I am not a hologrinder, I will be playing a BE.

As near as I can tell, I have two basic options. Either Master Scout or 4040 Scout and a combat profession, or Master Ranger.

This character will be PvE only. The pros for a combat profession are fairly obvious, but I am leaning towards Master Ranger and this is where I need your advice.

I plan on making creatures, and want the best possible chance of obtaining the highest quality DNA; however, I don't want spend most of my time waking up in the cloning facility.

One argument I have seen against Master Ranger is that I would not have a well-rounded character and it could get boring not being able to hunt. I have an alternate character, so this is not an issue for me. Also gleaned from the posts, is that with +25 mask scent clothing and Jawa beer, 4040 scout is just as viable for dangerous areas as having camo. Is this statement true?

So, I guess it boils down to the question "Is Master Ranger worth the points?" What are the benefits of Master Ranger? Is tracking worthwhile?

Fire away, what have you Masters found out during your journey to the top and subsequent crafting endeavors.

One last question. If I do go with Ranger, should I start a combat profession toMaster Ranger and then drop it as I go up the BE tree?

Any input would be appreciated, and thank you in advancefor taking your time to answer this question.

Good hunting to all!!!!

My BE is ranger also, and i love it, yet, i have more than one character so it works out well.

If this is your one and only character your really locking yourself into one road by choosing master ranger. All i do is make creatures with that character, and i love doing it, but if that was all i did in SWG, im not so sure.

I would advise master scout (i just cant picture doing mutant rancor's without master scout), master BE, and some combat skill with whatever is left (or maybe CH?)

I never wanted to be anything but MBE. That being said it is so skill point intensive it makes it hard to be well-rounded. I originally had Master Medic to help heal my guild mates on hunts. I also had artisan skills to make harvesters, put up a vendor, survey and harvest my floral resources. Of course CH is nice so you can use what you make. Then again having no combat skills sucks. I have Master Rangers on other servers and I really like that profession. I finally decided to get only 4 Ranger boxes with my MBE. I got wayfaring I for the bonus to camo, not sure how much it helps though. Mask Scent, enhanced clothes and the Jawa beer was just as effective it seems. I also got 3 boxes of Tracking to find creatures. Makes it a lot easier when you need a specific DNA type, i.e. Mutant Rancor, Merek Harvesters, etc. Another consideration is harvesting meat, the trackign line gives you bonus to harvest which is great, but for the longest tiem i had no combat skills. Really makes it hard to get meat. I play on bria and it isn't uncommon to see meat 990 and up go for 100cpu. While meat quality doens't seem to matter for pets, you need good stuff for the tissues. I think the ideal is MBE with some Ranger skills and either spend the rest of your skill points in CH or a marksman line. I have taken to joining Enraged Rancor group missions on Dath, limited exposure to being killed and you can harvest tons of meat, hide or bone. The only problem is right now Dath Carn meat is pretty bad. So when it cycles around and is high quality you need to dedicate significant time and stock up.

After finishing a long stupid grind and getting me a 2nd Account sometime down the line, I will go BE again.

Without the need to take a combat Class to have "some fun", following template comes to mind:

MBE (doh)

Ranger 0030 or 0040

I think you dont need the Camo Line from Ranger hence you can only craft all Camo Kits as Master, so Masc will have to do.

The Tracking skill still helps a ton finding the right creature (500m radius is still not bad compared to swooping the same area with 64m range).

The Trap / Frontiering Line doesnt grant you too manynew / nice features, even the traps are not worth it, so it may be worth to save the points and not get Master Ranger.

Leaves 61 / 63 points at your disposal.

Personally I will go Teras Kasi 4004 (with Tracking 3). I picked Teras Kasi due to important and cheap abilities: Melee Defense, Power Boost, Bleed / Poison / Disease Healing as well as Wound Healing.

With all these skills combined you can travel the wild for extended periods and not have to fear a whole lot in the wild.

Worst case you can even defend yourself a bit, even though a pet / traps should be your prime method of evasion.

My Alternative would be spending the points on Merchant.

Even with a minimal Teras Kasi (2000) you cannot get Business 3, unless you sacrifice more Tracking ability. You would at least be able to keep the Direction with Tracking 1.

My Template for MBE with only 1 Account looked like this: Master Rifleman, Master BE, 4040 Scout, 0004 Creature Handler, 1004 Medic.

That template had about all I wanted (Pet Usage, superb Combat Abilities) but the Lack of Artisan / Merchant as well as Master Scout hurt pretty much.

Honestly, 4/0/4/0 scout with cothes and beer works well for me... It is a little more of a pain to get mutant dna, but you pass most everything else in scent checks... which is good. I like having a combat profession to back up myself and allow me to gather my own resources.... primarily rancor meat...

Thank you everyone for the feedback. Please ignore the last question regarding how to level Ranger in my initial post...had a senior moment and then realized I should check the Ranger forum for that one

I think I will go with the tracking line in Ranger...but still looks fun to master.

Again, thanks all. If anone has any more comments, please feel free to have at it!

Would it be a reasonable idea to add Template- tips/viable options- to the FAQ?

if you want to get ranger, the only viable option is to get creature handler as a combat profession

all your prereq skill points have already been invested and you can make your own weapons.... it's a win/win

however, you won't be able to master all of them

i suggest 0030 ranger and master ch/be....... or 0300 ch and master ranger/be...... but you could switch around a lot in this template if you really wanted to
