Thread: So DEs might have a droid mini-profession at master.. then we want a mini-CH one
Well they can't say it's because there's not a comparable profession as an excuse because the fact is that a DH and a CH are essentially the same thing. For starters a droid engineer can master their profession, master any oneof the elite combat professions, also take 4/0/4/0 medical skills in order to be able to make and use their own stims. Plus they will have 23 points left over which will more than cover any mini-profession they make take for droids. So you'd end up with someone who is utterly self reliant with the ability to hunt big game, heal themselves AND produce their own high level combat droids.
Now take a look at a BE. If we don't take any maskscent skills then we're able to do the same, however there is utterly no point in being a master bioengineer when you need to sample aggresive species, you can settle for submaster and still end up with the same results. If they made it possible to allow for a DNA trade then they'd have an arguement to say we aren't being left out in the cold. But the fact is that when you do take the highest maskscent required to stand a chance with sampling your left with only 9 skill points left. That might allow us to take part in their droid mini-profession but it's still leaving us very thin on the ground compared to the DEs who are in EXACTLY the same market as us for selling pets.
The other side to this is.....a scientist who knows how to clone a sheep (or make doggie vitamines) doesn't mean they know how to teach said animal to do tricks.
while someone who can build and program a droid, computer, etc...knows how to operate it.
I agree with Tal-N, it's BS.
DE only has to spend 92 skill points to master their profession. While we have to spend 121 skill points to master ours.
That gives them an extra 30 skill points already. So giving them the certs to control the droids they make over CL 10 as part of their profession not only screws BE it screws CH as well.
If we want to control everything we can make we have to master CH as well leaving a scant 52 skill points to spend elsewhere. That's just enough to get merchant 3/0/0/0 for planetary advertising and survey 2 so we can find our our flora products.
Even is they made a DH profession as a newbie profession so it'd cost a few more skill points that's still leave master DE's with enough points to master Artisan so they can make their own components, Master DH to control all their droids, have merhanct 3/0/0/0 for the planetary advertising and novice medic.
IF DH had the exact same requirements as CH then a DE would have enough left over after master to master DH, have merchant 3/0/0/0, survey 2 and novice medic. Which means they would be on par with us BE's if they wanted to control their creations as well.
Not to mention that if DE got the DH certs as part of their normal skill tree then if the combat droids are good enough we'd see a lot of CH's changing to DE so they could have good pets and plenty of points left over for something else. Which would in turn kill our market, thus making it pointless to play a BE.
That's what I was going to say. That is like saying only the workers who build the Abrams tank can operate one,not a "combat class" like,oh, tank commander.
So,my bounty hunter CAN"T use a battle droid, but a DE can?
I agree that is a bad idea.Commandos and BH's should be able to use the best droids, because they are the elite combat classes.Everyone else should be able to use weaker droids.
Combat classes should be certified to use droids like ch's use pets. Then DE is to BH/commando as BE is to CH.
You are exactly right ,Tal.Droid engineers deserve to be made viable ,as Be's did,and were. But they are both crafter professions, and this change you mentioned would move them into a hybrid crafter/combat profession, wouldn't it?
If they give that to DE's ,BE's will be ticked. Then if they give BE's the ability to control pets, you know ch's are gonna be ticked![]()
I also feel on a separate but related note, that they shouldn't screw with "elite elite "professions, even in expansions.I personally think this would feel "tacked on" and ruin the symmetry of the game design.Alot can be fixed/added to the skill tree's that exist without adding extentions.
Tal,
Yep, you're exactly right. In fact, if they do implement something like you say for DE and not for BE, then I will be a DE for certain. I'm very closely watching this balancing act to see which way the wind is blowing.

Tal, while I agree with what you are saying, the skill point calculations are misleading.
One of my good friends in SWG is a MDE (one of the "original" ones) and so what I know of the profession comes mainly second hand from him, and from another friend who "dabbled" in DE for a while before quitting in frustration. Anyhow, my understanding is that DE's pretty much need to be, and are Master Artisans as well. This is due to their schematics requiring components that only MA's can make. So the "real" skill point requirement to become a MDE is, in fact, 140 skill points rather then 92.
Now, even when they do that though, they are heavily reliant on armorsmiths. Even crafting droids generally are armored, so they must find armorsmiths willing to supply them. If you're going to talk self-reliance, then you need to add armorsmith to the DE's skill point requirements.
