Thread: My first MR sampling trip

Last night I was on Dath so I figured I'd try sampling some Mutant Rancors.
First stop, rancor cave to play ring around the rosie with the Ancient Bull. He wasn't moving too far from his post so I headed off to the Saarlac. I roamed for about 30 minutes searching for muties. Found lots of Enraged, Gnarled, standard and Young but M just wasn't there. Then I stumbled across it. A pile of dead ones. Ah, vendor says to vendor, they are or have been in this area and probably will return. Sure enough, about five minutes and 200m north, there was a spawn of five.
My normal method of getting close, drive up on my bike, obviously wasn't working so it was time for dirty work, start crawling. Of course, they looked like they were having a conversation with each other which means they were watching each others back. SO, I came in from the side.
Crawl, crawl, pause. Crawl, crawl, pause. Mask scent wore off but didn't break. As I get close I generate my bike in case I need to make a quick getaway. I normally don't wear armor but in this instance have a composite vest and took a bite of synthsteak. I also have brandy and jawa beer.
The moment of truth has arrived. Will I get a sample before getting splattered across the landscape? I insert my 15m needle in the Mutant Rancor's backside, wait a few seconds and see it falling over dead. Yes!
Okay, on to the next. The next MR is a few more crawls away. Figuring I had just experienced a fluke, I go through the same wondering. Take out the trusty 15m needle and... the MR falls over dead.
Pfft! Dose guys on da BE board don't know squat. Dese tings are EASY!
The third mutie is 28m away, time to crawl some more. Put the bike away and crawl, crawl, crawl... MS didn't break but did wear off again. I make it to 15m from my target, generate the bike and insert the 15m needle.

Yep, and it happens eight more times in a row. Then I get a success and several more failures. To make a long story short (too late) I got three pieces off that one. The fourth is right next door so I start sampling it as well when...
I look up to see the mutie yanking the needle out of his hide then following the needle to the other end. I quickly drop the needle and jam my hands in my pockets but he didn't believe me. Well, this is why I keep the bike ready. I hope on, sustaining a few scrapes in the process, that mind bleed hurt! I didn't have much time left anyway so I headed back.

Good Job,
It took me about 4 trips to get a successful sample.
Last night I went unbuffed and snuck up in my vehicle, that always works for me for some reason. MS breaks a lot, but I am just patient. After about 1 hour or so, I had received 7 samples off of 4 MRs. I decided to go back because I was filling a custom order and I wanted to deliver it.
Anyway, good job.

Oh good so i'm not the only one who had a terrible first trip...it's kept me from going back so far, but i may have to try again (and i'll have jawa beer this time too!!! lots of it!!!!!)
My first trip (the reason i haven't been back in a month) pretty much was me, out in the wilderness with a bunch of muties, no buffs, almost no armor, mask scent clothing, 2 hrs.....and not a sample. I would say it was more disappointing for the CH who i was trying to make a pet for, but he got a lvl 63 pet that wasn't at all bad, and it was my 2 hrs that had been completely wasted with nothing to show aside from decay.

Yeah,
The first few times I went without BE clothing. Now I have the bonus clothing which has helped the mask scent. I also havesome macros that work well for vehicles:
First macro"maskscent":
/dismount;
/pause .3;
/maskscent;
/pause .3;
/mount X34; (or /mount Speederbike; whichever you use)
Drive close until your maskscent doesn't break (if it breaks just wait and see if one starts coming your way, if so drive off and peace until it's not coming anymore and reapply MS) and you are 15m away, target the MR then:
Second macro "dna":
/dismount;
/pause .3;
/sampledna;
/pause .3
/mount X34; (or /mount Speederbike; whichever you use)
It works great because you stick the Mutie then get in your vehicle and if he aggoes, just zoom off. Prevents me from dieing cause the Muties can't keep up. In fact, I've only cloned twice on three successful unbuffed (except I did drink some Brandy) MR trips @ ~8 samples each trip and both times it was from Enraged Rancors that spawned on top of me. But MS breaks a lot this way I think, so less risk, maybe less return. Try it out if you want. This is how I collect samples from most creatures like MH, MDH, YMPW, etc... You can keep up with them better if they walk off too which is an added benefit.

ha... always an adventure... if they find me, i just use my tkm and slaughter them. dath carnivore meat isnt that bad.
