if you want melee then def swordsman/be...i have a sm/doc on corbantis, sm is a very nice combat prof. Fast and powerful, with armor and buffs you can solo a lair of anything you'll likely run across while sampling.
be/merch is a good combo once you've established a really big customer base and need the extra vendor space and advertisements. I say start out with BE/SM, SM is a fast grind, then you can switch out SM for merch once you've gotten established. Check the vendor lists and see what servers dont have any posted vendors/really old or crappy looking vendors, that will probably be your best market. Lowca for instance is not a good place to try to start

first of all hi everyone!
ok...im making new character and wondering what prof would go best with BE.
I'm stuck between pikeman,swordsman or merchant...tho combat would be better so i could be
able to harvest my own meat. i'm also thinking what server would be "best"(not so many BE's to compete)
best choice would ofcourse be my current server(farstar), but since i really cant afford second account that is kinda out of question

I'm all Pike and BE. I like it a a lot. Pikeman is definitely the weakest out of the melee professions however. I like the full combat and full hybrid-crafting template. You can't solo aKrayt, nor will you make millions selling Brandy,but it does give you a lot of options to work with. You can survive a bad sampling experience, get your own meat, buff up and go on a hunt, heal yourself or just spend time filling orders and crafting pets.

Im TKM/BE The TK part can solo pretty much anything that spawns in lairs (the exceptions being 100% kin resist creatures) and I have the bonus of Meditate to get rid of states/poison/disease/bleeding that any creature i'm sampling might put on me. (Theres also powerboost to get extra HAM...)
I can also function pretty effectively as a tank for guild hunts etc.

i have done tk with my old character.. so i want to try something new...swordsman could be better due to the ability to solo allmost everything with good hammer. on the other hand i think pikeman is better when doing massive harvesting due to it's powerful area attacks...ou well...and the artisan xx3x is must i think?

It is possible to do business almost entirely by mail, howeverits not so easy to do Tailor Tissues though.
I find that most Chef stuff is via mail order, and pets except cl10 pets (which are admitedly a big seller)are normally mail orders too. the main use of vendors for me is the Tailor tissues asI findthey are oftenonly afterthe odd crate of this and that. Also registering with the planetary map is useful, but for u this wouldn'thappen as u need to have Merchant Advertising IV for that. Im fortunate that I have a Master Merchantalt
If u do decide to do business without vendors, it is very important that u advertise well to make up. Trade forums, spamming starports, mailing lists of Chefs/Tailors/CHs etc.

I'm BE and Pikeman aswell... altho i'm now doin a little CH to. As i wanna tame the pets i create myself.
