Thread: Running speed of different BE Pets

From what I gather there isnt much difference between BE Pets. There seems to be CL minimums on some BE pets, but thats about it. Pets are so much alike, that most BEs refer to them as "skins" which reinforces the perception that preference is the only difference between BE pet types.

But what about pet speed? A feline BE pet, or skin as BEs call it, will run faster than a Durmi. With that, I ask the following:

Are Feline pets/skins the fastest?
Is there a fastest Feline? I hear the gurreck mentioned a lot for its speed. Or is a narglatch just as fast as a gurreck?
If the Feline skin is indeed the fastest, isnt this an advantage in PvP, PvM, and even in locomotion? And if so, is the feline skin the best template?
If the Feline skin offers an tactical advantage, do you {BEs} think most people will eventually set aside their pet preferences due to "coolness" aside in favor of gaming advantage? {ie "i think the kimo is cool, but if Skin X gives me an advantage ill use it instead"}?

Cat types (gurreck, narglatch, razor cat) and Raptor (kwi, blurrg, cu pa) types are the fastest ones I believe. The Dog-like skeleton (kusak, choku, hurrton) is also pretty fast, as well as the Ostrich-like ones (kaadu, pugoriss, carrion spat, etc). All pets with the same skeleton style will move the same speed.

The bugs are pretty quick too.

On Endor most Arachne can almost keep up with my Swoop till it hits top speed, then they get left for dead (as do most things). Thank god for Swoops

Felinescan keep up with someone riding an X34. I'm partial to razor cats, having made myself one to accompany me on my harvester checks and be my combat pet. Swoops are too fast for them however. I'm not sure about the speederbike, though. X34 and a feline pet is great for running missions. You can leave the vehicle out while you and your pet take out a lair (since X34s don't decay as fast as the other two vehicles), plus have the vehicle there for a quick escape if something goes wrong (like your pet getting incapped/killed).

If squalls are any indication of bunny speed, they're among the worst to use as the skin to put your uber DNA template in. They have a hard time keeping up with you RUNNING! However, you can't discount the fact that in PvP, those big macho uber guys who are full of themselveswill never live it down if a cute little bio-engineered bunny that's more dangerous than a kimo kills them!

Other than some creatures having a minimum level (no matter what you use to make a kimo, it'll always be at least CL 40), the only thing the "skin" determines is the running speed. I think the main reasons everyone wants a kimo is the "coolness" factor you mentioned or the general perception that the previously broken kimos have been "fixed." (And if they were never broken, would've been the most powerful pet you could get under the old system.) As for people setting aside their preferences for coolness vs. strategy/tactics, it's hard to say. No matter how much I've explained over and over againthat the end product DNA template is the "creature" and the skin has no real bearing other than what the pet looks like, it still always comes down to KIMO, KIMO, KIMO!

The Reptillian fliers are the fastest pets I have seen. Not sure if you can bio-engineer them tho.

So which is the fastest?

My feline cant keep up with my swoop, but if I run and stop, it will catch up and rarely get stuck. I can run 500-600m and stop and it will catch up.

I'd say the bigger cats are a faster feline model (as opposed to a kima or jax), plus I always lose sight of my Jax when it's in tall grass.

Tybis run well also - mine keeps up with me while running, haven't tried the land cruiser thing at all yet, I assumed none of my pets would keep up.

Viciousness comes from the skin also. I also think Deathblow comes from it too.

I mademyself arazor cat that keeps up with my speeder. I made a few non-creature handler gurrcats and I've been told they are very fast. I made a mid level mite and I'm told its very fast as well.

I made 3 killersqualls of different CL (Monty Python fan) which are fast but they can't keep up with a speeder.
