Thread: My thoughts about the BE profession

This is just a friendly message; no one is being targeted here. This is just my opinion on what people are saying about giving the BE too much power.

The general population needs is to sit back and ask themselves this:
What is a Bio Engineer? Let me break it down a little.

Bio --> Prefix indicating living plants or creatures, as in biology, the study of living organisms.

Engineer (verb) --> The study of using scientific pricipals to design and build.

Bio Engineer --> Manipulation of biological elements, using scientific principals, to create new life forms.

As a Bio Engineer, this is what we strive to do, make things better than what they would be under normal circumstances. Every profession in the game has some part of it that is time consuming as well aggravating at some points, it's not like we have it any better or worse than anyone else in the game. The profession also has it’s bugs, like the Kamurith DNA bug, which I myself do not exploit and several others here don’t either.

The pets that we clone and create for people don't just pop into our crafting window and BAM, there's a level 69 Kimogilla, 60% resists across the board, high HAM, area poison andforce strikeas specials, and armor. We actually go through lots of DNA, resources, second and third generation sampling, and sometimes even failed experiments to create these "Uber" pets whether it's for us or someone else. In the end of the "customized" pet process, weend up having alot of pets laying inside our backpacks next to the 1 ordered pet. Creating a customized pet is no easy task. Someone walks up or you get a /telland they want the above mentioned Kimogilla, or “I seen this onein Coronet, and it had..”. We would have hope first, that we have enoughDNA toeven start making a "customized" pet, or one with the closest stats. If not, then go out for DNA again, and the same resources. DNA takes time to harvest, all at the risk of a free ride to the nearest cloning center, then time and creds (in some cases), getting healed, just to go out and do it all over again. I can't tell you how many times I have walked into a med center and heard "OMG, what happened to you?" It's actually pretty funny at this point and when I tell most people what happened, they start to realize.

It's not like we can factory make any pets, which in itself, would make the profession boring in my opinion. I would rather sit in my house and experiment, to see what I can create, what stats I can alter, and what the outcome of crossing several types of DNA and other resources will do, and how they affect the pet when cloned. I don't mind spending several hours logged in trying to figure out the "new" system for cloning. I have a notebook right next to me, with anunknown amount of pages with notes, numbers, %'s, and doodles of little kimo's right next to me, that I use every day to try to reproduce specifics. This and all the information from everyone here in the BE forums, so that one day soon, we can all "streamline" our process. I would like nothing more than to say to the person dropping an order, "Ok, gimme 5 mins and the pet will be ready". There are several people here in the BE profession who are striving to make this possible, but understand, until we have some solid evidence of how to get specifics, "customized" pets cannot be created on the fly.

Anyone who is saying that the Bio Engineer should get nerfed... Well they can say all they want, but I for one, believe SOE has finally taken a huge step towards making the Bio Engineer what it should be.

Again, this is not a gripe session, or sharpened arrow post. Just a small bit of information for people to read about how I feel about, and what it takes to be a Bio Engineer.

now tell that to the people who aren't bio-eng lol. Hopefully soon we can have a thread of "known" facts about how the new system works. A compilation of all the time spent. I am working on a small site to keep track of dna that I sample, makes life easier when doing lookups for custom orders.

But good points made. Now if we can get the status from the DEV on some broken issues from the last patch.

Trying my hardest not to sound nasty but.. what was the point of this topic? No one has asked for a nerf of the profession, infact the only complaint is that some CHs don't like the fact their best pets need to be bio-engineered. If you actually look at the information in the holocron about what the bio-engineer design template is then we're supposed to be improving on nature. Currently though the new cloning system is working just a itty bitty bit too well on the improving side, so much so that we've successfully managed to give non-ch's pets which have the raw tanking ability of something that is CL40.

Kinda removes the need for the CH profession doesn't it That's why it needs to be fixed.

Hey.. CH still are the only ones able to supply fliers and snakes i'm sure thats good for something heh. It's funny that non CH still ask for "Tanks". When they tell me they want one, I tell them to pickup CH and then come see me. Then I get the, well some guy had a CL10 10K ham pet and I want one. Then you kindly gotta explain to them the dilema of the NK dna

This is pretty much the exact explanation that I have to give out time and time again now that word has gotten around that I'm making BE stuff. This is the analogy I give:

Imagine if a weaponsmith had toharvest his resources by hand, couldn't use a factory, and could only sell 1 out of every 10-15 weapons he made, with the rest getting scrapped or recycled.

I had to drive this point home to someone who offered me 30K for what was probably my best creation to date, while others have said 'Make me this... go nuts, and don't worry, money's no object.' These are guildmates, so I'm not going to rip them off, but it goes to show that some people out there do realize how tough it really is to make good BE pets.

Tal-N, No offense taken.

These were just "my thoughts about the BE profession" and what I feel about it.

I do get several ppl asking me to make the nonCH tanks and have to direct them to the forum here to understand why I will not make them. I had several ppl tell me in-game that I shouldn't be allowed to make any pets at all that a creature handler couldn't tame, "SOE needs to nerf you guys" is what I was actually told by a few people. But as I said, my post wasn't pointed towards anyone. None of that really bothers me, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The improving on nature is as I stated it, mine might not have been that clear in the 3rd paragraph, sry bout that

The being able to create clones that are non-ch tanks, should be fixed as you said, and I agree with that completely. I read throughseveral posts here on a daily basis, and you NK post is a perfect example.Havinga "glitch" that enables us to make nonCH tanks.. Yes, we can make a low level pet a tank, but should it be that way? It makes the CH profession not look worthwhile. I am a MBE/MCH and worked my way through CH to get to the top,a few months ago. It was really cool that I could have a lvl50 pet, and another lower lvl pet out at the same time. Now, is there any sense in keeping MCH?.. not really, but I keep it anyways, because I accomplished it, and eventually, the "glitch" will be fixed.

I dont take any offense to what anyone says here, these were just my thoughts.
