An FYI, guys. I made a CL70 last night that originally had roughly 5200 Armor Effectiveness. I wanted to see if the armor would shift down as well as up, and it did.
Pulled him out just now (lunch break) and checked... AE 4696, just like my other CL70 pets.
It appears that currently, we can not affect the AE, To Hit and Defense Value stats at all.. they are completely controlled by the CL level. At least, for the high CL pets this is true.I need to domore testing on mid and low level pets.

HEY!!!! It's Belisama !! WOOT! (was afraid you quit BE!) ...
There is NO solution for this or any trick on how to get around it. The devs seem to have decided that armor is so closely linked to combat level that they won't allow any playing around with it (this is my own opinion because it doesn't explain why they still let us experiment on it).
The pets auto-adjust. My DROIDS actually auto-adjust to their combat level as well the second time they are called.
So glad to see you are still here and keeping Hoof and Horn going ... ANY new BE's who have NOT seen Belisama's web page for her shop - click on her link and go admire ... it's awesome - full of good information and a great place to send customers who want to know what a certain pet can look like with ALL the color variations given.

This is a logical consequence of the accursed, slacker-dev friendly level system.
Mobs are just "angry bags" now. They are not unique. A level 70 is a level 70.
The experiment with a virtual reality that was SWG has been replaced by a stupid mathematical drill with pretty pictures.

Hmm... if its so close to combat level - why then dont calculate the CL on the stats beeing displayed insteat of changing the stats when taming ?

I still love BE
I started with it in October 2003 i think and Datura (my other account - ingame she is my daughter) is BE since December 2003 / January 2004.
I took it as a sign that the first holo for Datura said BE ya know ,)

It does appear that no matter what you do to experiment with ae it will always shift to a value that is correct to its CL

I'm not surprised that they replaced the BE pet crafting system, before the cu, there was a voodo-magic box that stuck a CL on the creature on the final combine, it followed some set patterns, but over-all was far too complicated to break down for anyone other than the original programmer, if even for them.

it sure was fun though,
much more than it is now.
