I'm a creature handler so I read their forum as well. They created a thread regarding what they've seen and how they feel about it. Because there are many more creature handlers than there are bio-engineers (and their correspondent posts to their forum) I hope the devs finally get a clue.

Also note, its not just non-creature handlers animals that are being hit by the "pet check."
