First, meet foofoo, my favorite, longtime hunting friend

www.nwlink.com/~wildcat2/foofoo.jpg

I sent foofoo in after a nest of perlak scavengers on Lok.

The combat log showed they were hitting foofoo for between about 98 - 140 damage or so from ranged attackes.

The floating numbers above foofoo's head showed the same numbers. Generally in the low 100's as far as damage coming off per shot, and poor foofoo got beat up pretty badly. When we got towards the end of the battle, and foofoo was engaged with a single perlac scavenger, the floating numbers above foofoo's head were much lower (like 30 or so).

So my conclusion, in this fight, is that the perlac's certainly weren't using kinetic (or blast, or cold)damage in their ranged attack.

Part 2 coming shortly... when the Perlaks meet the "Vk".

Ok, here is my other test pet, pretty useless pet really, but good for this test. I had 2 other people with me when I did this test, so we compared notes.

www.nwlink.com/~wildcat2/vk.jpg

I sent him in after the perlacks, and he immediately got hits of between 85-95 or so, Once he closed the distance, there werea couple of hits in the 135-140 range (the pet obviously didn't last long, even after being healed)

hmmm.... now I'm really confused. Damage reduction didn't seem to be enough to be acid or heat (what I was expecting) so what does that leave? energy? electricity?

It could be blast, which would make some sense. Foofoo was low on it so taking near full ranged damage while VK had a resistance.

you could be right. It's very difficult to be precise in these things when 5 different birdies are all hitting your pet, some with ranged, some with not, and all you have to go by are the numbers above its head.

I shall try some more experiments, and perhaps another pet, one with armor and more extreme differences between protections.

It may be worth trying to kill off all the spawn bar one, then set the pet on that one. More accurate results?

Tricky - but do-able with a little teamwork, and a Squad Leader to volley-fire for you. Generally, if the critter dies in the first volley and you're all masked, the others don't aggro.

I was always under the impression that most ranged creature attacks were acid based; exceptions would be some of the critters in the Geo cave. Just looking at the animations on spineflaps, for instance.. the colour seems to be green.. sort of acidic snot. [grins]

Its possible the attack has armour piercing, as from experience, NPC weapons of all damage types, sometimeshave AP; its really only creature bites, that are consistantlykinetic AP 0. Though since SOE broke all NPCs melee attacks and gave them unarmed attacks, they have been using AP 0 kinetic attacks. This may explain why the second set of numbers against anAR 1 50% (ish) acid resist pet, is only around half reduction.. the ranged attack my be AP 1 acid, or even AP 2-3 acid.

I don't have any hard numbers, just playing experience and being gobbed on by creatures. :-P

Whoops.. just saw that the second pet had no armour rating.. but still.. AP 1 acid ranged attack would have a 25% damage bonus vs. the acid resistant VK.

In that case, the numbers may add up.

I *finally* managed to get a whole bunch of spitting rawl dna (100% acid resistance and ranged attack). I put together a pet with that (and have a lot left over to make "real" pets with if it turns out to be effective), Stay tuned for round 3: "this time it's personal".

Ok, an update on my ranged experiments:

I took 5 spitting rawl samples and threw them in the blender with no experimentation. The result was a very interesting critter with 100% resistance to acid and a ranged attack, but resists to everything else were < 5%. In other words perfect for testing.

So I took the little bunny out to Yavin last night. I engaged some klicknicks of various types and some crystal snakes, and both times they cut the poor little guy to shreds with their ranged attacks.

/sigh

ok, time to try another form of resistances

/distroys all his spitting rawl and mynock dna
