Now this isa very loaded question. It all depnds on what you want to do. Combat? Limited Combat? No Combat? A little more info is needed as to what you want to do.

My apologies.

I've had a couple heavy combat characters so I want to stay away from that.

If it's possible to survive monetarily without any combat abilities at all, I'd like to do that. If not then I'd go with minor combat abilities.

Yes it is possible as one of those with the MBE/MCH/Ranger 0030 you can survive long enough to get away from anything your sampling though some synthsteak and/or decent armor(if your not a Wookiee) helps.

It also depends on what your getting into the profesion for.

I am a pure crafter, (BE/chef) and its not that hard to stay alive. I dont even use buffs or armor when I am out exploring.

Plus that it really adds a thrill to sampling knowing that you better run like hell if they aggro

My Alt is MBE/Master Ranger/CH 0/0/3/0

Very fun combination, altho i am primarily into pets (and tailor tissues for myself only) I think if a BE was into Tissues as a buisness it would be prudent (yet not required by any means) to be able to harvest their own meats

I'm a BE/Chef, I do just fine out and about. Any meat I need I contract out for with some rangers I know. But with the BE/Chef you can help drive down the price on foods and make those Chefs earn there money.

I'm currently BE/Carbineer/Merchant but that will change shortly since my wife (plays a master doc) has decided to pick up merchant and I'll have some free points.

I'm going to master Carbineer with BE for a while, but ideally I'd like to go BE/CH/Ranger just for the sheer fun of it. Why be able to make pets and not use them?

I have more than one BE but the Chimaera one is my most played.

I keep combat for getting the meat, but it is very boring going out hunting enough meat to do a big run of stuff. Unfortunately, as a BE, I find it hard to compete on meat prices with Doctors and Chefs when a good spawn comes up. Plus, I have to hunt Avian for my wife *grumbles and shows the thumbprint on his forehead*

As a tissue BE you really have to give a lot of thought to how you'll get that meat...

My ultimate aim is to have a BE/CH just for the pure pleasure of it, so once I have a decent bankroll that's what I'll do - no more hunting for me, I'll just run round with my pets and drink brandy all day

I love sampling and making pets...

These all seem like fun ideas, and I thank everyone who's replied so far, but I'm still a little curious. With the BE/CH/Ranger combo - which I think I'll go - are you able to start out with no credits and just run? Any trouble getting materials or making moneyas a novice BE?

I think I'd really like to start a BE but I have some apprehensions.

To work BE up to Master you will need a MINIMUM of around 35,000 Meat. You will also need a hundred or so meat every time you create a critter. Plus, you'll need about 250,000 flora resources to get to Master.

Think about gathering that quantity.

If you're not 'bankrolled' by someone else, then you need to work up a combat profession first to get the meat, in my opinion. You'll also need Artisan 4004 to make and place your own small harvesters for flora.

Your other option is to run a lot of missions and use the mission money to buy meat/flora.

Either way - it's a LOT of meat

I'm an MBE, pistoleer 0034 and ranger 0030. The tracking/harvesting bonus from ranger REALLY helps, and the firepower from those pistoleer blocks lets me kill a wide range of stuff.
