Not all skins are created equal. I once thought they were, but I've learned my lesson.
While I know all the info I'm asking for is available on the BE FAQ, and most BEshaveseveral sheets of referenceinfofor clone crafting,it would be nice if all skins (and clones)had the following info listed in-game:
Minimum Level
Wild/Aggressive
Ranged Capability
I've made all sorts of mistakes--- sold level 10 anglers as non-CH pets, carrion spats as ranged pets, etc. Especially over the ranged issue. All these factors are based on the skin chosen for the DNA, not just the DNA itself.

Actually, the Ranged is from the DNA. I've never had a clone that didn't have a ranged attack in the DNA get one because of the skin I used.
Adding the other information would be helpful.

You can't train it in the ranged attack command unless the skin had it originally but the pet still has the ranged attack even if it doesn't have the proper animation funny seeing a razor cat spit.

But whether the pet has a ranged attack or not is dependant on the DNA, not the skin. I assume you're agreeing with that?

Yes, it has the attack regardless of the skin you just cant train it the command unless it's in the right skin.

I have had no trouble training the ranged command to any pet that falls into this category. All I use are ranged pets, too.
Can you give specific examples, because maybe these skins are bugged and need to be reported?

I have never been given the option to train this command on razor cats or gurrecks.

How recently have you tried it? There were some fixes put in not long ago for BE pets that couldn't get all the commands trained for attacks.

I have made seven or eight razor cats and gurrecks. They are all ranged and use the attack at range as well. There is no "spit" animation, but the attacks work just fine.

I never said they didn't use the attack but you can't train them in the command to use ranged.

There are a LOT of creatures that have ranged attacks. Bet way to find them is to look at swgcreatures.com and do an advanced search.
