Thread: Top 5 Official Dev Response
THANK you
i'm tired of reading a whole bunch of whining and complaining and no praising...
i love the bio-engineer profession so much i started in on creature handler so i could use some of my big baddies....
withpeople trying to figure how and what works with what? stop using dna that's vastly different! a piket and a gnort wouldn't breed well together in the wild and not in a crafting station /sigh
i do have some issues but wanted to get that out first; i love the bio-engineer profession and love crawling up to a mutant rancor and see it keel over and die because i stuck a needle in his arse and then playing god later by making a cute and loveable vir vur that'll bite your head off ![]()
now the current issues i have, some may seem like a broken record but get over it, i have a problem with them just like everyone else
first and formost creature lvl..... i have tons of people tell me "i can only use up to cl 13" or"can you see about gettinga pet with knockdown attack?" or the dreaded requests for multiple things like high kinetic resist and specific attacks
i'd love an explanation on resists and attacks and how they will come out in the final template; the ham costs are pretty easy to figure out (it's not hard people!)
i'd also love for samples to tell what cl the creature is, i know that's beating the horse but this issue must be stressed
mask scent for me isn't a problem as i have exploration IV, however i also agree that at least a mask scent modifier should be added to the sampling line, but without the skill (so you need to at least put SOME effort into it)
i'd love a modifier for terrain negotiations while prone... it's very hard (even with a lot of mask scent) to sample mutant rancors without them detecting you at 60m away- this problem is something i can deal with, just wishfull thinking ![]()
top issue: MILK!!! gah i can't stress this enough i have more requests for passive tranquilizers than any other item from the tissue line (even pet stims)
survey... not really an issue with me, but it has been brought up so i'll throw in my two cents... perhaps it would be nice if medics could survey for resources they would normally be able to aquire from /medicalforage... that would make me much happier and wouldn't be too out of the question to ask for
I'm not sure I understand the complaining about how complex it is to make a pet.. or that the DNA doesn't stack.. or that we can't get exactly what we want every time. You complain you want to be able to have others go out and collect your dna for you. You want to be able to make a tool to give to Rangers to collect dna. Isn't that part of the fun of it? I find it **edit** exciting to sneak up on a creature thatcould kill mefairly swiftly andjab him with a needle and extract dna samples.
We are the only "crafting" class that gets to play God. I can tell you that I would never want to put a creature schematic in a food and chem factory and churn out a crate of grauls or kimoglias. There is no fun in that. Thats why I don't play a weaponsmith.. or an armorsmith... personally I would find that a bit boring... but thats just me.
DNA shouldnt stack. Every creature is unique.. just like every person is unique. Our resources don't shift... they live and breathe. The beauty of being a BioEngineer is that we are the only class that makes a product that HAS to be handcrafted.... and it should be. With the bare essentials in your inventory and a backpack... you probably have in the neighborhood of 80-90 open slots to carry dna in. Thats 16-18 different pets if you dont sample "failures" for more dna. I'm also making the educated guess that you have a house and a personal crafting station.... which probably equates toa bit more storage. My point is... we have enough room to do the things we need to.
If you want to make a cookie cutter product... go make laser rifles... or composite armor... or crates of bofa treats and name them "pet food". There is pride in handcrafting a product for your customers. I find great satisfaction in sampling dna and heading back to my house and playing Dr. Frankenstein to see what I can learn, create and then in turn... learn some more.
If and when the Devs turn BioEngineer intoa "plug and chug" type of crafting profession, is when I will surrender all the skill points spent in it. I'm paraphrasing here... but sounds like some of us want others to collect our dna... bring it to us... so we can put it in to a cookie cutter template and come out with the same exact creature we did the last time... and every time.
Thats not crafting... its greed.
sorry, meant to quote that in my previous post... also i forgot to add that some creatures' colours change to default when tamed (i've noticed my ronto, someone said a few other creatures) this is just an irking problem that really doesn't make the game any less fun but is still annoying......

Talt, since the DNA samples that we get now ar similar, they should stack. Storage is a real problem. I have 4 houses now. Their exuse for not stacking them is unacceptable.
Well yeah, we ARE scientist, but we are FIELD scientists, not "stuck in a sterile room" scientists. We are the guys that do the fore-running to the creature cloning world. Remember? In a galaxy, far away, a long time ago......... Heh! The whole lure of the profession to me is the diversity. Good greif, there is no other profession I have found as interesting, diverse and even frustrating as this one. Makes for a lot of pride when you get it right I would say. And then there are those little clues at log in....don't you love them? Rancors..part arachnid.....hmmmmmm
Can't we just have fun with what we do and quit trying to compare it to armorsmiths? I don't generally try to compare my mini van to a corvette....I bought a minivan. You are a BioEngineer...be proud, make the most of it...have FUN!
Here's a silly question... why don't containers act as one item in a house? Everything you put in a container counts toward the max number of items that you have in a house (ie. 150 for a small house). What is the point of containers then? Please... someone tell me?
Not everyone can afford (or want) to have 2 or 3 (or more) houses just to store stuff in... that they need for their profession !!!
