Thread: What would you do?

If it was your mission lair and you asked him nicely to stop you can report him for being a greifing **edit**, he is intentially spoiling your play time and NO-ONE has the right to do that regardless of game mechanics.

For some odd, nutty reason this makes me smile.

Well, I have to say first that Nancy's IS the official, if ineffective answer. By the time a CSR shows up for something like that it is likely to be over to begin with, and no amount of documentation of anything short of obscenities and blatant exploiting is going to get anything but an "I'm very sorry this happened" form letter.

People sometimes do make a mistake, seeing a BE running from a mob that is aggro, and try to "save" you, but this person quite obviously was not mistaking your approaching the lair for "needing 'help'" and his response to the tell showed the same.

Rancor loot seems to be as mucha motivator for poor behavior as Krayt has been, and the way you responded was probably satisfactory, if not 100% the mature and reasonable way to deal with it. I'm not, sadly, above a little guilty glee in watching an anatomical necessity get the just rewards for acting their part too well, and it was effective at least. Perhaps if I were more forgiving...

I have enough trouble not offending friends that want to come help me collect DNA to be worried too much about people that behave like this guy. If I tell someone I am working the lair for DNA samples and that I cannot sample from a creature that is aggroed, the more reasonable people will either wish me luck and move on, or ask if they can attack and kill things that aggro me, which I am happy to allow; if I kill it, I don't get any loot, so might as well allow them to get it if they do, and some have been more than willing to share it with me.

Anyone who behaves any less politely than this generally gets less polite responses in return, and my pets are wonderful at moving a creature either into, as you did, or out of engagement range of someone that is interfering with my sampling.

As a final touch to the story, I would recommend posting the tailor in question's name to the boards, or to the trade or community boards for your server, to let the BE community there know this person's attitude towards a BE. He might just find it more difficult to obtain the tissues he needs, or at least pay a premium for them, if the BE community finds this to be his attitude.

I often find "hoisting someone on their own petard" to be the most satisfying response to such an attitude; it certainly would be unlikely to inspire friendly relations with the BE's he needs to buy from, and might encourage a more cooperative attitude in his next encounter.

Becareful naming names, on the farstar forums virrago has a big deal about deleting all posts that do so.
Although revenge can be satisfying when the CSR finally shows up or checks the logs he's going to see you behaving just as badly as the person you're reporting

Hmm, Nancy has a good point there concerning the post, and while I would decry it as censorship, it is one way to prevent the false accusations as well as the true.

A chat with the guild leader or officers of the guild the tailor belongs to, or a visit to the location he sells from ( which might take a little research, but the vendor list from the main map might help if you are so inclined, especially if combined with the guildname) might get some discussion, though not much can be done about it from this point. You still might attract the attention of the BE he relies on for tissues with the post here, or through the guild or sales location (look for a BE vendor there and talk with the BE about the tailor, as I am sure the BE would not have taken that interference any more happily than you did, and might have a chat with the tailor himself.)

Then, at last, there is the other equation; you have had your say, now how much more energy are you willing to put into this person, whether it is locating them or anything else. Sometimes the fact that the game is big enough to allow us not to encouter someone again is as good a blessing as we can wish.

Ok I'm not really sure what to do here so I thought I would ask for some advice. What do you do about customers that place special orders then don't pick them up? I don't mean like a few days. I mean like 10 days and no reply to your emails or tells. Selling the items I don't think will be a problem, I guess I mean dealing with them in general. I've had one place another order with me and I'm not sure how to handle him. I don't want to pawn him off on another tailor and have him do the same to them but I don't want to fall into the same trap of him not picking up his order. When I told him that he should come pick up his previous order first his reply was, "Oh I don't need that stuff anymore." So needless to say the old TK urge to pummel arose very quickly. I guess I'm looking for a way to tell him "DIE DIE DIE" but professionally. Any help would be great.

Well, if it was me and the customer wanted a custom order and then told me that "Oh I don't need that stuff anymore, but here make this for me..." I would tell them, you either pick up the first order or you don't get a second order. You did not waste your time, energy and resources to have someone say no I don't want it now do this. If they want some "personal crafting machinetailor" they can picktailoring up themselves to waste time, money and resources. If you know other tailors on your server, simply talking to them about this customer could get him blacklisted. I have had one customer on my server who is a pain in my behind and that is exactly what I did, I spoke with other tailors I knew to make sure they were aware of the situation and then if they chose to deal with her after that then it was their problem not mine.

All in all, good luck in what you decide to do. I find that customers like these are not worth it and in the time that you are waiting for them you are using up valuable inventory space and could be doing other things rather than tracking them down.

I've had that happen a couple of times. If a customer decides they no longer want what they ordered, or they went and bought it from some other tailor in the meantime, it would be nice if they would let you know; but most won't be that polite. It's the "tailors are just vending machines" mentality. Bah!

If a customer has not picked up a custom order within 72 hours, and does not respond to the one and only ONE email notification I send out upon order completion: then that order gets stocked on the vendor. If that customer then contancts me via mail, tell or in person about their order, I tell them the "layaway" time limit passed and the items wererestocked on the vendor, that it's there if they want to come browse and buy. If the particular color of that item is no longer in stock by then, I will offer to make a couple more in that color and that it too, can be found on the vendor -- better come buy it before it's gone again. And I mail them my waypoint - again.

Customers who do not come pick up custom orders do not get another custom order packaged and on hold for later pickup. Ever. They go on my vendor sales only list.

On Intrepid, we also have the option of using a guild called UPS. Their "business" is delivery. They are trusted implicity and have a sterling reputation. They deliver anything, anywhere, to anyone. For a fee. They will doggedly track down even the most elusive customer, deliver your items and collect your payment, and /tip it to you. They are trusted to deliver the rarest and/or most costly of items. They transfer millions of credits. They will assist you in moving any amount of items, buildings, harversters, etc. They have warehousing facilities you can rent. They have standard fee contracts with individuals and multi-corporate groups and guilds. They have UPS drop box offices set up in several player cities. It's great. What can Brown do for you? UPS is here to serve.

There are some customers I have had to sic UPS on to get a delivery completed. *evil grin* Don't make me send UPS after you. Come pick up your order. Mu ha ha!

You know, I've had a few that don't pick up their orders. Only one has sent a second order to me, and if she hadn't asked for the impossible, I probably would have declined unless she picked up the first. Instead, I just sent back an email explaining that what she wants can't be made (I think she wanted stun/melee defense in a noble's crest or something). Maybe I should've mentioned the other order as well. Oh well.

I confess, I'm pretty bad about remembering special orders. I'll send out the e-mail and then forget about it, until the pack falls off my vendor. Then I'll just restock to general. Honestly, I don't think it's ever happened that someone doesn't pick it up. But yeah, if someone tells me "oh never mind" that's an automatic shop ban. If someone buys a custom order belonging to someone else, automatic ban and no refund (hahahah) - hey I have a warning backpack that says "DO NOT BUY OTHER PEOPLE'S SPECIAL ORDERS!" with a note about banning. Some moron once bought 2 decoy packs. Hello 75k, that I'm not giving back (he never contacted me so I think he was embarrassed).

Well.... this one time... I did a deal for trim with a chef and I offered the trim to his vendor and forgot about it - only to have him be out of the game for RL reasons and let all my trim poof off his vendor (partially my fault for not paying attention). He offered to pay for the trim that poofed, but he never did. Ah well, no more trim or schematics for j00.

(By the way, when you offer something to someone else's vendor, it doesn't drop to stockroom, so you don't get a "warning" before the item poofs, you just get a "your item has poofed" e-mail. Meh.)
