Checking out the various lists, and going by first hand knowledge from being out taming new pets pretty much all day, it seems that the specials are merely level based meaning that a lvl 1-35ish tame might have a Lvl 1 trainable ability. 36-60 ish seems to be where lvl 2 abilities are found and 60+ ish would be lvl 3 abilities. The species of the creature doesn't seemt to come into play at all. I have tamed/trained 3 babies from the same lair and got three different specials in the process (1 on each baby I tamed). For instance, I was on Dantooine and trained a savage quenker and got KD1, then tamed another savage quenker and got eye gouge 1. Had similar experiences on Tattooine also tamed several scyk lizards and got 3 different abilites from them.

I have not, however, had any luck actually learning an ability from a pet yet despite fighting along side them long enough to level 1 of the pets 3 times

Try hunting spinflaps, flewts, nightspiders, and ikopifor an hour each. Result of higher CL may be different then the results of lower CL. Since I started as a Novice, for the full spectrum of testing, I focused on CL 1 - CL 15 pets.

Also, creatures of a certain type have Abilites of a certain type. The large plotting beasts, such as Fambaa, Pickets, Snorbal, etc, seem to have Abilities that deal with Health. Ranged Small Fliers typcially have Triggered Effects,. Feline/Canine seem to rather random, wtih a tendency to lean towards Triggered states and Innate Combat Bonuses.

These where my findings over the last 4 days or so, listed in the guide....

The Level of the Ability, and the Ability do appear to be completely randomized, with the exception of the below mentioned list. CL1 - CL30 pets appear to be most likely to have L1 Abilities. CL25 - CL65 pets are mostly likely to have L2 Abilities. L3 Abilites appear to be 'rare', but are most likely to be found on CL60 - CL70 pets.

Certaincreatures appear to be morelikelyto have certain Abilities, when tamed. This does not mean that the pet listed here will always have the listed Ability. It simply means that for every 10 times that this type of species is found to have an Ability, more then likely, it will be a specific Ability.

Giant Pharple CL 55 (Lok) had Agression L2 (2 babies, both had the same ability).

I tried using one of these babies in order to learn this ability and the entire flock attacked me. Anyone know what exactly this ability does? Is it an area attack (for instance)? At this point, I am thinking it's not worth using (at least while I am hunting solo... maybe it would be useful in a group... but even so, I'm not sure).

Well, I'm starting from Novice, working on Naboo (since I can get CL 80 missions for me around Kaadara, and CL 5-15 yard trash for the critters),and here's my findings from tonight:

Knockdown Att L1

Bachelor Gualama, CL 12

Marring storm L1
Flesh eating chuba, CL 4 (I learned this after 2 training xp rollovers)

Eye gouge L1
spider (night or hermit, I renamed before noting it ), CL 4: (learned after 3 rollovers)

Staggering Attack L1

Chuba, CL1

And as an additional note: I found that you don't get CH xp for training "innate" abilities (Marring Storm). You do get CH xp for training a voice command for the triggered ones, though.

Enraged Reptilian Flier - Hamstring Attack (L2)

Gaping Spider - Bleed Attack (L2)

Rhoa Kwi Hunter - Frenzied Blitz (L3)

Male Brackaset - Defensive Agility (L2) & Cowering Vigilance (L2)

Thanks to ravingbantha for your efforts to compile this list, now to get some L1 skills so I can actually teach them...
