for the longest time i was master bio, master pistoleer with the psuedo req of 4040 scout as well as 0004 medic
my remaining skill points fluctuated into medic, creature handler, artisan (for vendors and surveying, was novice merchant for a while) and went up a few skills into survival and had ranged support IV for a while
now i'm a completel combat fighter and my alt just mastered musician and plan on doing master bio as well
won't leave me with many skill points left over but i'm not too worried, i just need to be well armored and ready to down some parwan if things get too hairy while out sampling (which is my passion as a bio-engineer)

My template for a while has been MBE/MCH, Fencer 0040, Medic 1004, Scout 4040. The defenses from Fencer are a big help when fighting unbuffed (I usually sample unbuffed with my pets backing me - can be a real challenge with MR's and Mereks). I'm currently adjusting to Fencer 0400 to see if the better speed is worth the dropping the dodge defenses.
Oh Corbis - I thought I'd mention that my alt picked up Luck. A friend and I who have it are still debating whether it works after having it for several weeks. I'm not saying it doesn't work and you shouldn't get it but be aware the effect on your looting ability is ... subtle. Once you train it up you will be subject to the "curse" - you're not sure if it works but you can't drop it or you'll kill yourself wondering what you could have looted
Figured I give ya fair warning...

Thanks. Believe it or not, I'm not concerned with whether or not it actually works. I just thought is sounded cool, and I was hoping for some sort of "lucky dude" title to hang over my head when I get all four boxes. Oh well, at least it still sounds cool.
Player1>What FS trees do you have?
Corbis>Some reflex ones, and LUCK!!!
Player1>Does that actually work?
Corbis>I dunno, but it sure sounds cool. =)
Player1>You're an idiot.
Corbis>Quite possibly, but at least I'm having fun

You should be ashamed. Picking something because it "sounds cool" instead of carefully weighing the bonuses gained, how they stack, and whether or not they will make you "uberleet combat lord". Tsk, tsk.
(Yes, that is sarcasm for those that didn't notice.) Y'know what? I bet luck affects your "loot" roll, or maybe it only applies to "forage", "medical forage", and ... okay, so it's 4 boxes that count towards your required 24. But still... it *could* be cool. You just don't know, do you? Maybe it improves your ability to impress the dancing slave girls....

The more I play my BE, I think BE/Swordsman with Scout 2040 and Artisan 0040 is a wonderful template! I can go hunting whatever I need for my tissues and I can sell my BE goods in 2 vendors. At the moment I really have more fun with this template than with my paddy

In response to the original poster...
I have MBE with my alt account that I deactivated 5 months ago due to crafting frustrations. It has the following:
Master Scout - MBE - Artisan 0040 - Merchant 4000 - Ranger 4030 - Medic 0004
As someone who played a diehard cloner, masking skills and tracking were the most crucial non-BE skills in my template. I was ALWAYS out looking for mutant rancor or BMBQ's. Tracking made it SO much easier. Some people would literally run circles around their target mobs not knowing they've missed out. In terms of defense, I used my poking macro so peace the character as it pokes. That way it won't autoattack when the creature aggros. I would, then, run until it would deaggro and try it again. Sometimes, it would take an hour to simply approach a group of mutants. All this until I got Ranger and mask scent clothing.
If you play like me, then there is no room for combat. If hunting is what you need, one suggestion might be to buy another copy of the game and grind a character that'll be purely a hunter. Or, the time-consuming, yet cheaper, option would be to hold off on the other skills and get jedi. Your free character will open and can use that for whatever hunting template you so desire.
