I'll put my Arachne nasties up against your Picket nasties anytime ![]()
Technically, MS isn't required for a BE to do their job. If you don't have MS though, you'll be restricted to niche sales to newbies and even then you might find MS equiped BE's beating you out with low CL AR1 critters.
Bottom line though, if you want to make top of the line, cutting edge pet "tech", MS _is_ required (unless you plan on buying DNA from BE's that did decide to take it). If you're happy making high resist Ok pets, then you can go without it.

Btw. medic types are not likely to get any kind of survey... no matter how much a lot of us want it (I don't btw).
Technically BE's don't need survey either.
Nor do they need mask scent.
I've made some really nasty Critters outa bol and picket DNA.. both non-aggro.
To get the best DNA off of the biggest stuff. yeah, you may need mask scent... (hell I have it atm, but will sell it off when I master... I don't have the points for it) but no more then a Master Ranger needs a weapon skill to get the most resouces to harvest, or survive after trapping something nasty.

1) Yes...but we need documentation...PLEEEASE!
2) Fine...but what about milk?
3) The Blood idea....best idea I have seen yet!!!
4) Ok...maybe documentation would help ![]()
5) Not really and issue for me.
The "Blood sampling" and "Needle tool" are great ideas and should be presented to the Dev's pronto IMO.
Blood stores like a crate would really cut down on data base load. Sampling from the blood vile would be similar to sampling from a pet deed. Only thing about the Needle idea I don't like is everyone being able to use it...it should only usable by BE's. Great idea and should be recognized by the Dev's.
I'm not sure I understand the complaining about how complex it is to make a pet.. or that the DNA doesn't stack.. or that we can't get exactly what we want every time. You complain you want to be able to have others go out and collect your dna for you. You want to be able to make a tool to give to Rangers to collect dna. Isn't that part of the fun of it? I find it **edit** exciting to sneak up on a creature thatcould kill mefairly swiftly andjab him with a needle and extract dna samples.
We are the only "crafting" class that gets to play God. I can tell you that I would never want to put a creature schematic in a food and chem factory and churn out a crate of grauls or kimoglias. There is no fun in that. Thats why I don't play a weaponsmith.. or an armorsmith... personally I would find that a bit boring... but thats just me.
DNA shouldnt stack. Every creature is unique.. just like every person is unique. Our resources don't shift... they live and breathe. The beauty of being a BioEngineer is that we are the only class that makes a product that HAS to be handcrafted.... and it should be. With the bare essentials in your inventory and a backpack... you probably have in the neighborhood of 80-90 open slots to carry dna in. Thats 16-18 different pets if you dont sample "failures" for more dna. I'm also making the educated guess that you have a house and a personal crafting station.... which probably equates toa bit more storage. My point is... we have enough room to do the things we need to.
If you want to make a cookie cutter product... go make laser rifles... or composite armor... or crates of bofa treats and name them "pet food". There is pride in handcrafting a product for your customers. I find great satisfaction in sampling dna and heading back to my house and playing Dr. Frankenstein to see what I can learn, create and then in turn... learn some more.
If and when the Devs turn BioEngineer intoa "plug and chug" type of crafting profession, is when I will surrender all the skill points spent in it. I'm paraphrasing here... but sounds like some of us want others to collect our dna... bring it to us... so we can put it in to a cookie cutter template and come out with the same exact creature we did the last time... and every time.
Thats not crafting... its greed.

Eggs/fish/milk - perhaps if the catch was more like a stack of 60 (like a large dantooine animal) fish per catch that would be more reasonable. It would still take a long time, but it would be better than my usual 2 - 5 per catch. Eggs - same thing, if the stacks were larger I'd be more satisfied. Milk - maybe searchable in lairs? Same thing though, larger stacks.
I don't really have any complaints, except maybe more details from the Devs about how the slots for DNA work (something offical, like a guide), instead of making us guess.
For example the minimum levels of things....lol, I made a Kimogilla with HAMs of 110/220/350 and it stil was a CL of 40.....LOL.
That is the biggest weirdest thing I have seen.
Also the fact that the Masked scent does not work too well.....and any developer saying it does is full of it.
You see a person with the highest skill in Masked Scent with Clothing adding +34 should not have many problems...but no....the Rancors and things still break the Scent easily.
Yeah thats real cool.
Also there is the issue of the DNA and the CL levels of things.....its all entirely based on the DNA used, but it seams that a Master who experiemtns with things will raise the CL levels to higher levels, then a Novice who can fail, there by lowering the levels and creating real nice lower CL creatures compared to a Master who for some reason will be stuck with High CL level things.
Yeah, thats a bit annoying....
I was under the impression there would be a statistic for experimentation to lower the dynamic CL level of something, but there does not seam to be one.
And although the random nature of the creations is nice and everything, it would be a little nicer to have some more control on things.
I mean right now the system is kind of fun, but a bit annoying when you want to make something that has armor, yet the random variables dont seam to let you do that, which makes it impossible to make any with armor very much, and even if you do, then you will never be able to make anything more then light armor.
perhaps if it where possible to create Items to enhance creatures, that would be kind of nice, like something to make armor on something or to increase the Resistances.
Heck maybe even a way to take a creature in existence, put it on the Crafting table and make adjustments to it would be nice.
That would follow the general motife of Mad scientist, or Genticts expert.
CRipes following that a step further, perhaps maybe a special object could be made like a cloning vat, where a Bio-Engineer drops a subject, and then literally grows the adjustments on something over a matter of days.
Witht he more drastic the change the longer it will take.
Thats just my idea....
Still no size scaling I see....I guess EQ and most other online games will have this ability while this game will not....
Overall thought he changes are very nice...problems with Masked Scent but then thats been an issue for quite a while....with the only people saying its too effective, only use it on things that are weak and low level anywise.
I still have no control over the level of the pets produced.
Im trying despritly to produce lev 10 non ch pets and depending on the random roll of the dice i have no way to recover from a pet that comes out a level 11, not to mention no clue how the level is even determined.
What do the devs have against telling us what the formula is for stuff.
Thats 16-18 different pets if you dont sample "failures" for more dna.
Thats assuming that every sample you take is of decent quality, then you have the fact you cannot sample more than around 5 times without aggro and around 3 times safely. And out of 16-18 clones you'll find around 6-8 actually failing on the template or clone assembly. if you are getting dna from higher end mobs then your looking at drastic increases in the collection time.
In the end the point is that any other profession can leave harvesters gathering materials for days and then produce gather huge amounts of materials. A bio-engineer can spend only their playing time gathering dna plus they need to find donars in the first place. The only equivilent is to have an architect handsample every material they need to make a guild hall. See how long that takes and the raw frustration when you get a critical failure.
Guys, please don't be mad at me
! (was once a BE and will be again one day...)
Just for the stacking of samples, I do disagree with you : You shouldn't be able to stack or have more dataspace just as easily (as I said, I know how it is...) and just for a little matter of interdependance. Go buy Droids with storage capacities, they're made for it (once they do work properly for that matter).
And please don't be mad at me... Means more Droids, means more StarWarsy
!
Having the CL show on the template during experimentation is all that is needed to control the CL of the clone, in my opinion. Seems to me it is a very simple fix too.
Before you started to experiment, you would see a CL. The only way to get it to go lower would be to experiment and fail. As you use experimentation points, you would easily see how points in each of the five areas affects CL, and only put points in those areas in which you think the improvement in the pet is worth the CL gain. This would require, of course, being able to predict how the attributesof the templatedetermine the attributes of the final clone.
So, say you want a low CL pet with Light Armor. Just put points into Physique. If the CL is still too high when you are done, sample your clones, choose the worst five samples, and start the process again. You would probably want to start off with 20 or more samples from wild creatures, butI'm no expert on re-sampling clones. It seems to me, though, that the only reason the CL goes down as you resample is because the attributes, like HAM, Armor, andDamage, tend to get worse as you resample. For the whole process to be fair, the method for calculating CL must be logical. The methodused for calculating CL would be much more apparent if we could see how each experiment point affects the CL.
I didnt see mention of the milk situation, just that seafood will be looked at.
also my services declined somewhat as far as no one wants mounts hardly when can use a vehicle and with droid engineer push, I think this will decrease so we will have a small market. I am mainly a stiompak maker atm.
TOTALLY Lost.... I have never been able to sample my own pets... how do you guys get 2nd and 3rd generation samples!!!... please let me know... I have full grown pets and I cant.

Well the publish in december has made the system better, but it has some big gaping flaws in it.

Thats the minimum CL rating cap in effect, incase you didn't know certain bodies cannot drop lower than a fixed amount. Kimogila are at CL40 and Rancor at CL35.
Also the fact that the Masked scent does not work too well.....and any developer saying it does is full of it.
Works fine for me, just as well as it always did.
You see a person with the highest skill in Masked Scent with Clothing adding +34 should not have many problems...but no....the Rancors and things still break the Scent easily.
I've not seen this, also recall that you cannot get more than a +25 bonus for any skills so +34 doesn't actually increase your maskscent by anymore than the maximum bonus cap. Also Rancor typically roam around in groups so your naturally having to make multiple maskscent successes on approach which drastically lowers your success rates. On the whole though nothing has changed from what I have experienced.
.....

Get fortitude over 500 and you typically see the armor appear, thats how people are ending up with CL10 lightly armored pets (another imbalance in my opinion)
....
Still no size scaling I see....I guess EQ and most other online games will have this ability while this game will not....
Considering how clones don't appear to be growing normally at the moment we can't really tell is they're abnormal sizes or not like we were told they'd be.
As for using droids for storage space, that isn't an option now that people are not allowed more than 1 droid and 1 pet in their datapad currently. So all my droids storage module can do is give me space for 9 more dna samples. Droids really are not an opition for dna storage and anyone who is actively making clones now knows that we need a way to store dna so that when a customer asks for something we can have samples stored up rather than needing to then run around planets for the next 3 hours trying to gather them. It'd save so much time to have them gathered well in advance. Currently the system is not working for casual players since they'd need to take an entire week to make a single clone assuming it doesn't fail and lose everything.
Please don't dumb down the most complicated crafting profession by limiting the range of DNA. There are hundreds of storage methods available for those that choose to use them. You can carry 110 items on your person, 100 in your bank, and 100s and 100s in houses and on vendors. Does that mean that you might have to leave your lightning cannon at home to seriously sample? Yes it does. Its a choice. . . make it.
Fish and eggs are fine (although I wish I didn't have to hand stack them). Most of you know how to get them, you just don't want to take the trouble or pay someone else to do it. (Sumo being the exception, thanks for all the business. :smileyhappy
Milk and Shellfish I have yet to see anywhere I can actually pick them up. ("You don't have permission to access loot pile.") If someone can tell me how to get Milk consistently I will go through the trouble. . . even if I'm getting 1 unit at a go.
The BE profession is not 100% yet, but complaining about issues that are only issues because of a lack of commitment to the profession, or laziness, doesn't help get the really important things (like tissue variety) accomplished.
