Amusing. That is what my RL daughter did. She banned me from her store because I was buying her items and reselling them. Haven't spoken about it since even though it has been a long time since I even delt in the items in question.

Shame on you ripping off your own offspring ! Not only would I have banned you from my store, I would have gone onto your account while you were getting laid and deleted your character !

I think she was generous to you by only banning you

How pray tell do you rationalize that statement? I bought the items at the price she asked. I used no exploits and no cheats. Yet you advise my daughter to commit a criminal (in RL) action? Boy I am glad she is too wise to even consider such a thing.

Is it illegal to delete someone else's SWG character? Exactly what law would that violate?

Actually you ment no offense and I must be the one to take offense even if you intended to do so. I was however confused with the concept that many people (not just you) have that it is somehow immoral to buy low and sell high. There are many things that confuse me about humans even in the real world. Now When I place something on a 'public' vendor I do so knowing that anyone can buy it and resell it if they know someone that will pay more. I am a grownup about it. I accept it. My daughter did not. And yes I did volunteer to split the profits with her but she was not interested in 'gouging' people. I have no idea how to gouge them in SWG but she is entitled to her opinions even if they differ from mine. (Boy is that tough for a mother to accept )

Short form I was not offended. I was serious about the criminal issues involved.

Sony does not have to procecute as the crime is one the state can take on behalf of Sony though it is unlikely a DA would bother without Sony co-operation. Sony would be wise to co-operate as it would set a bad precident if they failed to protect 'their' data. Many legal issues involved and there will be many many years of discussion between many groups before we iron out all the details. Fortunaly for you and I in the game gods are real (DEV's) and sometimes listen to our prayers. I notice there is no 'lawyer' profession

I had assumed that there would be no hacking involved. Yes if they had to break into your computer and or steal your account then that would be illegal in some way I'm sure. I'm afraid to say that I think SOE would probably not take action if someone deleted someone elses account. Hopefully they would at least help restore the deleted account if possible.

I understand the daughters reaction over product being resold. I think they feel they are charging a price which is "fair" in their mind. Then when someone else buys their merchandise only with the intention of reselling it then that person is taking advantage of their work, keeping their customers from being able to buy their products and charging an "unfair" price. I think its a fairly common and understandable reaction. They just have to realize that 1) they got the price they were asking for, 2) lots of people resell items for profits and that doesn't make them bad (hence the merchant profession), 3) if they didn't want it to sell then it shouldn't be on a public vendor. In general though, I do however think it is courtesy to ask the vendor owner if they mind if you resell their products. I also think it is rude for a merchant to buy out the stock of a vendor because that leaves the crafters vendor empty which is not a good thing. Not saying those things were or weren't done in this case.

In RL, retailers can and do limit sales to resellers. Many food products boxed in bulk are marked NFR, and stores can limit sales or flat out deny selling to other merchants. It's common practice for sale prices.

Yes, too bad we can't do that in game. It would help. I think more elaborate options on vendors would be nice. It would also be great to have the ability to sell specific items only to specific people so you can do custom orders and not have to put stuff in bags and risk someone wandering in and buying someone elses order.

To delete the character a person would have to either hack my account thereby accessing it without my permission and then would have to destroy data. (The character) That is actionable under at least 2 provisions of current Federal US Computer crime laws. Entry without permission and destruction of data. Some of the same laws that are usable to procecute hackers and to procecute virus writers.
