This thread is hilarious. I can just imagine the chaos of orders and questions that's coming the BE's way on day 1 of the patch.

that's a mouth-full there

I didn't envy the tailors who have to spend hours with particular customers figuring out what color/style/mods/etc they wanted in their clothing where I could just whip out some well-made rancors, gurrecks and the like and throw them on my vendor.

Now it looks like we'll be in the same position: Keep maybe a couple generic types on the vendor, but 90%+ will be totally custom orders made to suit

I have a question... (if anyone knows)

Are any traits inherited from the "skin" at all?.. for example.. speed.. Like if you use all DNA form a FG in a gurrek skin, do you have a FG that just looks like a gurrek and is in all aspect a FG. Or does it act/behave like a gurrek but have all the stats of a FG. I like maulers/rancor's and the like, but they're slow and can't move up hills etc.. So if I get a rancor DNA based gurrek clone, does it move a gurrek speed or rancor speed?

Just trying to plan out my order for when this goes live.

That is actually a significant question. The cat models have always had a serious speed edge over all others (not sure on the canine type ones, but I have been ab;e to run away from those, so my experience from hunting is that they are slower). If this remains, then FG-like stats in a razor cat skin would be significantly better than FG stats in an, oh, graul skin. Curious to know if this has been considered at all - have to admit I hadn't until now.

As far as an earlier poster talking about making a CL70 combined mount/combat pet I couldn't agree more, I think that will be an extremely popular choice. Personally, I fully intend on making a very tough bol. What will be interesting is if they would be subject to the inhibit-growth issue that was needed for giant spats. If so, I don't want to be the first BE getting slammed by an irate customer that paid for a CL 70 mount only to have to restrict it to CL10 (or even 30) to let it stay as a mount. This is the sort of thing we really should get guidance on from the devs without having to go through hours or days of accusations and incriminations from pissed off customers (IF they are limited).

Personaly,I think the no upper limit thing is just dumb and better suited to a Looney Toons MMO than SW.

Why? Personally I like it.. this way maybe we'll actually see some VARIETY in the pets people have instead of everyone running around with top-of-the-line Rancors/Graul/Gurrecks. You don't get tired of seeing the exact same pet 50 times owned by 50 different people?

I want a frenzied draul's stats in a bearded jax? Is that possible?

Ok here's a real serious question. The resultant resistances and armorof the made creature are:

1. The product of the DNA used?

2. The product of the DNA template/Skin used?

3. All of the above?

I will probably want a kimo skin for chasing things down and a jax skin for **edit**!?!? effect in PVP.

From everything ive heard and read on the test center the final critters level determins the actual size of the critter. So yea taht all rancor/grual DNA built Bearded Jax may be the toughest thing in your datapad, but when you pull him out hell be a hellova lot bigger than a normal Jax.

Reasons why (in my opinion) having no upper limit on skinsis a bad thing;

1) Immersion - people expect kimogilas, rancors and grauls to be dangerous, they don't expect durnis and gnorts to be. Even the real 'massive gnort' is still a very feeble beastie. Having high end CH pets inside what are basically bunny skinsis, to me, stupid. And stupid is immersion breaking.

2) Variety - actually, having all the small skins available for all CLs will probably reduce the number of pet types you see. Why even bother spending the extra resources on making a rancor body when you can make a jax body for a quarter of the resources and the same stats? To counter your position, we will still see a very small variety of pets, it'll just be lots of small types instead of larger ones. Make the max possible CL 2.5x the base 'wild' CL for that skin and it won't be a problem - that leaves a huge variety of suitable skins and gets away from the ridiculous prospect of seeing gnorts tanking krayts.

3) Clone line value - An entire tree of the profession MUST be there for more than pure cosmetics, or what is the point in it even existing. If things go live as is, the clone line is entirely valueless in and of itself, it is merely a skill/xp cost on reaching master. This is a complicated issue, and I'm not saying a max CL level would 'fix' this, but it would provide an additional tangible incentive and reward for getting the next box.

4) Possibly 2nd most important to me (as a CH/BE) - I am sick and tired of being the game's whipping boy for everything bad, I simply don't want to hear the cries and whining left, right and centre about how CH are soloing rancors using gnorts, or how this CH used 2 durnis to kill a krayt. I am totally fed up with being the target of so many players' hate just because I chose a profession that a few other people haveused to solo major high end content (legally though, the game let them do everything they have done). Most players don't come to these forums, and most ofthose that do aren't even aware of BE as a profession, let alone we are getting fixed. They will simply see a CH using a durni to tank something big and start screaming blue murder.

5) Limitations of the combat box system. Atm as a CH I see many issues with different mobs having different sized combat boxes (which is what causes all the pet re-positioning in fights and the legendary graul running away issue). I would betmy mortgage that the devs haven't even begun to consider the issue of using a gnort sized creature fighting a kimo sized creature where the gnort is tough enough to last more than one hit. Chances are we are going to see all sorts of running around, mobs running from pets, pets from mobs and god knows what else.

Frankly, there are more than enough CL30+ skins to meet any needs for variety. But even if there weren't, then yes, I would rather see everyone using the exact same pet than see oh-so-hilarious MrFloppy's all over the place beating up rancors, nightsisters and stormtroopers.

There will be a limit on the physical size, probably max they will ever get is 3 or 4 times wild size. This is because of issues with the model's polygon count and texture detail - if you make a jax the size of a kimo it will look utterly crap.

We already see amazingly high threat 'tiny' creatures in the wild all the time.
Just because our default bearded jax was CL10 didn't mean there weren't MUCH higher CL jaxes out in the world, now did it? So the ability to engineer a monster jax appeals to me.
And makes it that much harder to tell at a glance if a body should really bother that MCH and his 'fluffy bunny' pets.

I just thought of another thing...

I've been drooling at the idea of taming a Gurreck Prowler (10k HAM, light armor, 80% energy and kinetic resists).

... but it's not tamable.

However, you guys could go /dnasample 5 of them, and make a NEWgurreck with the same stats, right?

Yea, that's what I want!

Wait a minute, doesn't the cloning 1 skins use fewer resources to make?

(I realize the DNA would be the same, but wouldn't the meat and flora requirements be much less?)

So if you make a level 70 kaadu, is it going to be cheaper than a level 70 kimo?

If that's the case, and the stats are otherwise all the same, then I'd rather have all my BE'd "uber" level 70 pets in a form that is also mountable... kaadu, bol, whatever...

Have to admit this was my first though as well. However I don't hink it will work. Each pet gets bigger as its CL goes up. There is a max size for a creature if you want it to still be mountable. Hence you have to limit the growth of the giant Carrion Spat if you want it to be mountable. My guess is that your best bet will be the bol. Its already CL30 with its current build. It would seem you best option for a high CL mount.
