My BE is on Kettemoor, and after I built my mini-zoo in my house, I almost exclusively do custom orders. Repeat clients understand that A) it takes a helluva long time--game-wise--to build the "exact" pet they want and, B) the end product is usually amazing. Every BE plays their game differently; I personally enjoy the challenge of trying to figure out the best creature to sample, where to put experimentation points, balancing power and CL, for the order I've received. That challenge sometimes becomes annoyingly difficult (thanks for the lack of docs, SOE), but is usually manageable. The fact that many of my customers RP makes it easier I think (and I think Kettemoor has a higher-than-usual count of RPers).

If you do take custom orders, make sure you become comfortable with being very straightforward with your clients. Not rude, but I've had several prospective clients ask for a CL29 kimogila, and correcting their expectations has led to great business relations, even if it cost me a client or two (and those clients who walk away because you were honest about what you could do for them? They're the ones who are usually uber-annoying when you give them something less than what they fantasized about).

Personally, I'm waiting for the BE version of the RIS armor quest. You know, without the statistically impossible component drops and bugged schematics.

I think this is what most of the BE are going on about. You want a tank, something that will take the pounding for you and is of low CL. This has become harder to do with the patch. Anything with armor or high resists (or both) requires a lot of work on any BE part to produce this. Again its not like Artisans that can plop the resources in and poof, you got a tank. That's all we are trying to say here. There are A LOT more variables involved.
