Thread: Schematics. Your views
It's topics such as this that make me glad I have a pet wookiee. Schematics are a touchy issue, but since I have both skills at my disposal it isn't an issue for me. My only issue would providing a schematic is that it would add competition to the end market for me, food. With that said I am in a guild with two chefs and I gladly gave the other chef vendor space in my BE goods/food tent. Actually competition is a good thing as people will come half way accross the galaxy to shop because they know they will find what they are looking for. That increased traffic is worth a lot more than any competition you get from that close competitor, think shoping malls.
Back to the point. There are 3 main things that must be done to have 40 crates of tissues.
1) Gather the resources needed for the full run. That 20k meat can be difficult, however getting all that flora and at good quality is just about as difficult. You never seem to have enough no matter how many harvesters you put down.
2) Make the schematic. This is about 1-2 minutes of work although requires the master skill level, which is worth something.
3) Place the schematic and resources in the factory, wait 2 days.
Now out of those 3 things, number 2 is by far the simplest and easiest thing to do. 1 is absolutely the hardest to do and 3 isn't so bad, just need a lot of factories and then you wait. If you schedule things right, you should have a stocked vendor all the time. The rate limiting step for me is the resource gathering. I can only get so much meat and flora. So really 2 isn't that big of a deal and if you are out of stock, but the chef has the resources, then getting a 100k for 1-2 minutes of work is gravey and then some. What could be easier.
BTW how many people ask docs for schems for the advance med components for their pet stims? I do and I am usually to cheap to even tip. ![]()

Do doctors make the most of their money buffing or making med components? BE's rely on 3 classes (not counting the non-ch pet market which has been... nevermind). Chefs, Tailors, and Creature Handlers. Creature Handlers are virtually non-existent, and tailors purchases are inconsistent (BE clothing, at least on Scylla, isn't really in demand since once it decays to 0 you still get the bonuses). Chefs are the only reliable source of income, since the market for foods is crazy right now. Some BEs took it up because that's the role they wanted to play. Now you're suggesting that the only real way we can make a buck is to either take up chef ourselves (guess I'll be buying my meat instead of harvesting it myself) or drop BE altogether.
I agree with the earlier poster - we are becoming an alt profession.
BTW don't even get me started on pet stims/ vitality packs. 5 months ago a guild member got a crate of vitality packs and he still has some. Since regular stims work on pets, and are pretty widely available, the pet stim market is almost non-existent.

I don't think I ever suggested that anyone take up chef. At 30k a crate you will be doing pretty well just selling the additives. It is a simple 3 ingredient mix. Chef's have to track many different types of flora, animal, mineral and chemical resources to make all the different items. Buy resourcesat an average for 5 CPU and sell that addtives at 10 CPU. It is a great casual players profession. As to harvesting meat, I don't think I could hunt enough to get enough for a single run, that being MCH/MBE/0/0/3/1 Rifleman. I can take down my share of game, but never enough to keep the factories going. I pay hunters for meat.
As to who is the alt and who is the main, well that is a hard one. My chef 'main' stays mostly in town by the factories or the vendors. Leaves town now and then to shop for resources then comes home. My BE 'alt' gets to do all the adventuring be is field work collecting DNA or doing a dungeon with the guild. My poor Mon Cal stays at home and gets left out. All that money goes to buy nice rifles for my 'alt'. So who is the alt and who is the main? If you had a BE that did nothing but feed schematics into a factory, that would be nothing more than an alt profession. I guess it depends on how you want to play that character.
BTW, I use both pet stim Ds and stim Bs on my pets. You can use both at the same time and those Bs just can't keep up with those Ds. So pet stims are valuable even with med skills. I think the real problem is that people don't use pets much, which may change in the combat balance.
I never sellschematics (unless its for a friend or business partner). Selling a schematic is selling out the skills of your profession. I was once asked to create a 1000 use schematic for Muon Gold. Since I sell Muon, and make money off Muon (at least before the chef re-vamp) I felt that I would only let my schematic go for 1/2 to 3/4 what the street price I was selling Muon for. Since I sell Muon for 10k a crate, the full 1000 use schematic as a 400,000 cr street price.
Imagine my amusement when the person wanting to buy the schematic offered 5k or my time and effort. Hell NO!!! Your paying for the skills of my profession. And since the guy wasn't willing to pay 200k for the schematic, we went out seperate ways.
i would be more willing to sell schematics for people if the few chefs who wanted them didn't try to haggle
i sell my heavy crates for 55k, mediums for 45k and often give a few for free on bulk orders
yesterday i had someone tell me he never paid more than 45k a crate and i told him to look elsewhere then
he then told me to make him a schematic and sell him 10 crates for a total of 450k..... this was completely laughable
the first day after getting master bio-engineer i had someone TELL me to make him four schematics for a grand total of 20k
i'm friends with a few chefs who buy from me frequently..... i always give pretty good deals to them and they've never even asked me for a schematic. ever.
i'm sorry but i didn't grind out BE just to give away schematics to people who are too lazy to grind up BE themselves

My point exactly droid, it's not like Im robbing them, i always pay credits, think I gave the last guy 250k, some burnout and promised him 4 crates of brandy when the additives were done, that's well over a million credits worth of stuff for what? 2 minutes of work? Obviously if there were even a vendor I could go to to buy what I need, I wouldn't just bug some rando BE for tissues, but the case here is that the stores I visit are either empty, understocked, or their tissues are not identical.
oh and try asking for a bio engineer personally to fill a tissue order on the forums and you rarely get a response...take tissue making into your own hands and then suddenly you're trying to "cut people out"
