Thanks

on the patch notes, where the text concerning the group harvest changes was listed in strikethrough text, and which has now been changed to +30% with a grouped ranger, and +40% with a grouped master ranger.

we're still getting numbers in from rangers:

a master ranger, a ranger tracker, and a combat goon with scout skills go a-hunting. let's call them Alphonse, Bob, and Cletus respectively.

at their first kill, Alphonse harvests as a master ranger (base +100) plus +30%, since he is grouped with a ranger. Bob (who happens to be a mCH/mrifle/ranger 0030) harvests (base +80) plus 40%, since he is grouped with a MASTER ranger. Cletus, who only has scout 0040, harvests (base +40) plus 40%, since he, too, is grouped with a MASTER ranger.

Alphonse: +130
Bob: +112
Cletus: +56

at their second kill, Bob stays at ideal range (60m or so). the creature warps as the team tries to kill it. now the problem... if the harvest bonus is applied at the KILL, rather than the HARVEST, then we see very different numbers. Alphonse now harvests at +20% (base group bonus). Bob harvests at +20%... or +40%... or? we're not sure. Cletus harvests at +40%, grouped with a MASTER ranger.

Alphonse: +120
Bob: +??? (+96? +112?)
Cletus: +56

keep in mind that these characters have VERY different investments in scouting/ranger skills.

Alphonse: 140
Bob: 95
Cletus: 29

at BASE rates of harvest (and solo), that's a harvest-per-skill-point of:

Alphonse: 0.714
Bob: 0.842
Cletus: 1.38

what we KNOW:

players grouped with a MASTER ranger get a +40% bonus. the MASTER ranger does not get this bonus unless they are grouped with ANOTHER MASTER ranger.

the bonus is figured for players within 64m (at kill? at harvest?).

we still need to test this more. I'll do what I can, when I can, but the "weekend" is my work week, and cuts into my leisure time.

no, you get 30% extra for being grouped with another ranger.

Why's that? Two master rangers grouped together means that they both get 40% extra. I KNOW rangers will want to do that.

tbh - if they know each other then maybe - but theres nothing quite like being out unbuffed unarmoured and along in the back end of nowhere - makes me feel special

i will group with guildies happily true, and other rangers - but problem with grouping is that we shoot ourselves in the foot on resource gathering.

just my own opinion i know - but as i've read somewhere today, if a novice doc could outbuff a master doc - imagine the fuss! from that pov it feels distinctly like the rangers are getting kicked... savagely... where it hurts a lot a lot a lot.

This weekend, I couldn't even find one willing to discuss a price for helping find critters. Oddly enough, one guy wasn't interested unless it was hunting jedi stuff "other stuff is over too quick". Back on topic though, IMO, rangers should get 1/2 the bonus if grouped with anyone in that range and the full bonus if with another ranger.

Actually, the current thought in rangerdom tends towards allowing Master Rangers to harvest the entire animal..meat, hide, and bones. Which to me makes sense. This bonus, I think, may make me more popular among my guildies, tho, since I have ranger. Maybe I can pimp myself out... go with groups and just hang around. (I'm a non-combat BE, 'cept for pets.)

I'd say, cap the bonus at the maximum ability the highest ranger in the group has. No one can harvest better than he can; but give him a bump up too so that he harvests even better when the city doctor says "Isn't that strand of sinew useful for something?" and he says "Why, yes, yes it is... I was just getting to that..."

Gypsia d'Catman - Tough Chick with a Flamethrower
Catman Dewback - Famed Trando ex-band leader of the Wookettes
Felis Con'Colori - Bothan Spy back before there was a "Spy"
Larrana Darkewave - A Silent Dancer

All dead as of 11/30/05. We tried. Gysia's flamethrower blew up. Catman was arrested for trumped up charges of slavery. Felis grew cold in the grip of Darth SOE. Larrana finally swallowed her NDA and choked.

The inherent problem for rangers regarding harvesting is that the difference between what a master scout harvests and what a master ranger harvests is less than 40%. - this makes it v. easy for a master ranger to be out-harvested, which isnt really going to encourage a said ranger to group with anyone and provide a bonus. Ideally this system (i suppose) *could* work, if right from the start rangers harvested a LOT more than scouts and master rangers harvested considerably more than 0040 rangers - imho the harvest mods should be spread across the level 4 skill boxes of ranger and then master.

getting off topic now and prob should be in the Ranger forum, but point is these changes do nothing to encourage rangers to *let* people group with them, and in a way they *force* rangers to group with each other.

We like being alone, generally.
